Artist History
Doug Hell was born in Douglas David Hill in Leamington, Ontario. A bastard child with no name.
Doug didn't really take up music until 21. He picked up the bass guitar and joined a Ramones tribute band shortly after. By 25 Doug had joined punk band "The Vapids", long enoungh to record and tour. The trip lasted about eight months before quitting due to emotional problems.
In November of 1998 Doug moved to Ottawa finding he couldn't take it anymore in Hamilton. He attributed his mental illness to the city's pollution and somber atmosphere. At this point Doug had dropped the bass and picked up a beat-up acoustic guitar. He found the downtrodden instrument expressed his personality more and he began writing songs. These songs were melancholy pleas for forgiveness as well as positive, gracious nods to the smaller pleasures in life.
Music has been excellent therapy fo the artist. The self-proclaimed sidewalk psychiatrist now resides in Ajax where he found the true love of his life, Michele Robinson.
Don't look for any tours or shows from Doug Hell as he writes mostly for himself. He would never charge money for his art. |
