This band is a sonic assault of high frequency energy designed to spark on-lookers into a musical frenzy.They are a band designed for live performances with the kind of music you not only hear, but also feel. Formed in the fall of 2000, Catalyst is composed of drummer Chris Fitzgerald, bassist John Paul DeVivo, guitarist Mauricio Mejia, and vocalist Mark DeVivo. As a traditional four piece, they are anything but. Every member brings a different flavor to the delicious mix. Their collective influences range from Latin to Tool, and their resulting sound can only be described as the new school in rock. Catalyst's musical arsenal is packed with juicy originals. This band doesn't need to play covers! Anyone who has had the pleasure of experiencing a show knows that these boys are pro's. Mark, John, and Mauricio have been playing together for over six years and with the addition of Chris's rhythmic diversity, they make an all-star team.The Catalyst experience can only be described as powerful. This is not a band you ignore while you enjoy a quiet drink. You either love it or you hate it, but you sure as hell will feel it! The four elements of Catalyst are as diverse as they are compatible. Though their separate paths through life have taken them to a common destination, their journeys were quite unique. Orlando's Chris Fitzgerald began his musical quest as a percussionist in his high school jazz band. He moved to Tallahassee and Florida State University to begin a career in finance and follow three of his nine siblings. When not keeping Catalyst in the pocket, Chris is a regular outdoorsman frequently camping, playing Ultimate Frisbee, designing mola's, and all other activities, which involve family and friends. After graduation, Chris looks toward opening his own business and managing investments for himself and his family. He eventually would like to move out West and buy some land that his entire family can share Mauricio Mejia, Mark DeVivo, and John Paul DeVivo have had the good fortune of an eighteen-year friendship developed in the Miami suburb of Kendall. This bond has grown to solidify a brotherhood of commitment within each other's musical ambition. They have shared many highs and lows and are ready to further continue with their mission, overcoming obstacles with their common respect and aspirations. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Mauricio Mejia moved to Miami at the age of six. He immediately began the study of martial arts and frequently listened to the radio while strumming a tennis racquet. A self-taught guitar player, Mauricio quickly developed a musical love affair. He traveled to Tallahassee, Florida to study Applied Economics and is close to achieving his degree. Following his graduation, he hopes to find that life will truly be his oyster, and will land him a job that keeps him surfing.Mark and his younger brother John were born to Colombian parents and raised in Miami, Florida. John has been a practicing musician for over 11 years and is equally influenced by classical, jazz, and rock music. However; while his tastes are eclectic, he focuses mostly on energy driven hard rock. Aside from his passion of music, John enjoys a good novel, computers and programming, nightlife, and spending time with his family and friends. In the future he plans on submerging himself in leisure, studying life's quirks and mysteries, and returning his good fortune to those who have supported him. Mark's path to Catalyst was driven by his desire to join Mauricio and John in their love of music. Lacking the knowledge of a hand held instrument, he discovered his god given set of pipes and allowed for his voice and vision to resonate. While always the showman, Mark's introspective lyrics can be traced to his visual perception and work in computer graphics. Fascinated by still imagery, Mark currently continues to study a new canvas for his artistic expression. He is a lover of life, and is blessed with a touch of spectacle that can infect those who meet him. Catalyst is his army, and musical domination is his obsession.
