Press Reviews
Llarion Reviews THE CHRIS GEITH GROUP (on MP3.com) RESTLESS HEART: Oh... My.. GAWD.Well, I can certainly see why this piece is featured as a Best Of MP3. It's about a Best of any damn thing. Holy smokes. Where do I start? OK, with my first lo ve, the drums. This is the slickest drummer I have heard on MP3.com, bar none. And that fill at 0:51 is about one of the hippest, most sublime I've ever heard. Stealing it, if I can possibly ever execute it! Very Dave Weckl in the relentless mechanical precision, coupled with a low-slung elastic groove. The spatial effect the arrangement has is spectacular. The 8va bass line coupled with the upper voiced chords in the beginning give it an airiness that entices you to let yourself be swept away. When the groove settles in, the spare, essential melody creates a sense of comfort and sets up the blindingly cool syncopated brass hits. The keyboard work is tasty and efficient, never overbearing, never understated. The sax work harkens Tom Scott or Marc Russo. Chops for miles. Absolutely nothing is missed in this song. The recording quality is pristine and solid. Superb depth and dimension, very punchy, and utterly clean. The musicianship is about the best I've heard in ANY genre. The composition brings to mind the work of Rod Temperton and Jay Graydon. The only thing that keeps this from a perfect 10 is that 1) I've never given one and 2) A truly virtuoso solo to create more of a compositional orgasm is missing in the song. 9.95 of 10 (best score ever!!!) AGE N T OF DESTINY: Oh, Russel Ferrante and Yellowjackets live!!! Brilliant use of dissonace in the chord structure. The brass arranging is phenomenal. LOVE the transition at 1:25 into the second section.Such a wonderful mix, how you got such an intense, fan t as tic machine gun sounding snare to blend so effortlessly is a testament to both your drummer and your production skill. He's a freaking metronome with a soul anyway! His hi-hat work is godlike. The piano solo is very satisfying as well, bringing to m i nd Ru ssell Ferrante and Tom Schumann, but with a high degree of originality and freshness. 9.8 of 10.mˇ |
