    Press Reviews
dB Magazine (Australia) 28th July - 11th August 1999"Do you want to move?" Enquires the inner sleeve,"Let's Dance". Herein lies an open and direct declarationof intent and aspirations for ShornTarn. There's someinitial temptation to describe ShornTarn as Retro, thoughthis is really a reflection of the technology andsound programs involved and the fact that, in a loosegenre, Tarn still structures his music more or less insong form. Shake it (Oh ya), though vocal free, is stilla tight, stomping journey through electro reggae witha distant disco pulse in the back of the speakers. WhenTarn steps up to the mic, as on Air, Bassman and So in love,he sings with a soaring earnestness over stolid, straightforward drum patterns, achieving a feel quitereminisent of Savage Garden. It's an odd thing torecommend of an independant techno release, whereobscurity is so often the goal, but ShornTarn's musicis crying out for a record company's proper recordingbudget to polish up the production and get it out thereinto the mainstream market. While there's complex beatslike Baby here to prove that thin technology can beemployed to produce deeply off-kilter results, the majority of these tracks, such as Get your body movin'and Bassman are unashamedly exuberant, hi-nrg floor-fillingtechno. This is dance music that wants to succeed and there's a place for that.Brett Buttfield
