Artist History
The Jerry Forney Blues Band
Jerry began performing in rural Missouri at the age of fifteen and fast established himself as a blues guitar player. By twenty-two he was down in Nashville working as a sideman (both six-string and pedal steel guitar) to many artists including Sun recording artist Charlie Rich. While in Nashville, Jerry pioneered the underground singer/songwriter scene at a club called "Springwater."
At "Springwater" Jerry could be found accompanying such folks as the late Townes VanZandt. Jerry's steady band while in Nashville, The Forney Brothers, was praised in The Tennessean.
In 1987, after several years playing in house bands and various roadhouses, Jerry moved to Austin, continued working tirelessly, and eventually recorded "Jerry and the Juke Jiants" on Flying Coyote Records in 1991. Jerry also performed at the eclectic Kerrville Folk Festival. Soon after he made his way back home to Missouri.
Now, seven years later, Jerry is on a creative roll. One hell of a roll, to be sure. Jerry's shows drive straight down the line with guitar playing that is singularly transcendental. Jerry is a favorite in college towns across the midwest where he brings his blues. Recently, in November of '97, Jerry was invited to play Memphis Bluestock, a festival on Beale Street featuring fifty of the best blues artists in the world.
