Artist History
One night, the Evil Beetles, a rock trio from the suburbs jammed with Level 5, two rappers from the ghetto. The two great tastes, tasted great together. It was reminiscent of Run DMC smashing down the wall and rocking with Aerosmith. EBL5 has brought their rap/rock coctail to CT and NY clubs for three years. We have played shows at the Webster Theater, Toads Place, Bushnell Park, Steve and Sullys, Don Hills, and the Lions Den... Level 5 live in Bridgeport and the Evil Beetles have a studio in Collinsville. Currently they are booking summer shows, (100% NEW SET) and producing their 3rd CD. |

Press Reviews
Select Reviews 1/21/99 Hartford Advocate "Dare to be Different" by Michael Marciano - Musically, EBL5 are as close as it gets to being underground in Hartford. The group?s multiracial stew of urban black vocalists and hard, neo hippie seventies surf rock ranges far beyond the status quo..... Rapper Rome, "But it wouldn?t be underground if we had a chance." 3/1/99 Conncept News "Who put the chocolate in my peanut butter?" Alan Veniscossky - taken from www.conncept.com In November, a friend handed me a copy of a recent issue of Source magazine. To my amazement there was a multi-page spread about the hip hop music scene from the greater Hartford area. The questions that kept popping to mind were who are these artists and groups, where are they really from and why doesn?t this article feature the only original hip hop group I know from Hartford, the incredible Evil Beetles / Level 5? 6/3/99 Hartford Advocate "Memorable Memorial" by India Blue"?The shows I get, the dough I get, the hos I get, the MO I GET? The Friday night show of the Evil Beetles/Level 5 at Steve and Sully?s was a good example of preaching to the uninitiated as hip hop met rock and roll in what is one of the Hartford area?s most original and creative bands. We?re talking modern with attitude." |
