Artist description
what is the bittersweet way?
the bittersweet way is beautiful music...
the bittersweet way is the sound of rainfall at the end of the world...
the bittersweet way is black coffee and cigarettes...
the bittersweet way is dancing in the rain...
the bittersweet way is half asleep and dreaming...
the bittersweet way is heartbroken...
the bittersweet way is eternally optimistic...
the bittersweet way is confidently insecure...
the bittersweet way is subconcious...
the bittersweet way is the only way we know...
the bittersweet way is here to kick your ass... |

Artist History
the bittersweet way was founded in the fall of 1997 by jedidiah foster. in the few years previous, he had made a name for himself with the moody guitar pop band, (why)ellow. the band became edgier and more experimental as time went on, and by the time of their dissolution in the summer of 1997 had placed bliss rock on the map in arizona. with no band, and a head full of noise, the bittersweet way was the logical next step.
they quickly gained notoriety for their live show. combining white noise, guitar feedback, old black and white movies and pretty melodies left many with their jaws hanging open and their ears ringing. their closing number, "dreamsong" was infamous. the single, "suicide love song" was recorded during this time. it sat on the shelf for almost a year and a half before being featured on two independent compilation albums in the summer of 1999. by this time, jedidiah foster and his rotating cast of players had hit a slump. they had made two failed attempts at recording an e.p. entitled "low-fidelity". they had more or less stopped playing out, rarely playing more than one show a month. interest in the band was at an all time low. then something happened.
the buzz began. the shows were still few and far between, but suddenly there were people coming out of the woodwork for them. bittersweet shows were suddenly "happenings". arizona's own worthless records has this to say at the time. "THE BITTERSWEET WAY is something like a celestial omen, an unforseen eclipse, or a passing comet: when it passes through you had better be alert and attentive or you'll miss one of the more strangely beautiful opportunities of your lifetime."
for nearly four years, the bittersweet way has been making ears bleed in arizona. now, it is time for something different...
a departure in style. a change of moods. built from the ground up... acoustic guitars provide the foundation. there is still the SOUND... always the SOUND... but it is tempered by loveliness and melody. the song is the key. the song is the key. without the song there is nothing. these are the new tenets: make the songs BEAUTIFUL. make the songs HEARTFELT. make the songs that STIR THE SOUL.
this is "rain dancing", the debut album by the bittersweet way. it is raw. it is dirty. it is beautiful. it is unlike anything you have ever heard.

And, another of my favorite bands, bar none, THE BITTERSWEET WAY, finally released their beautiful "Raindancing" CD on this evening. Please, kids, if you've come to respect us at all in these past six years of b-spot productions...please trust me on this one. You will love THE BITTERSWEET WAY. You may not get it at first. That's cool. You're young. But, you will love it. Simply one of Phoenix's best bands

Bootlegged Bittersweetness
Almost as good as being there.
You never know exactly what Jedidiah Mark Foster is gonna pull. Just as his band, THE BITTERSWEET WAY, reaches acclaim for their eclectic electric brand of alternately harmonious and disharmonious noise melody, Foster releases a BRILLIANT CD titled "Rain Dancing". But, there was a catch. The CD presented Bittersweet songs in an acoustic hue--stripped down to their beautiful basics. (I'm not exaggerating here kids, this one is in my top three AZ CDs released in 2001.) So, what would you expect the CD release show to be like? Acoustic? Stripped down? Wrong. Foster returned to his old tricks--badgering the crowd with feedback-drenched melody. And, lucky for us Bittersweet fanatics, the evening was captured on tape.
