Artist History
Mr. Berenson's latest recording from January of 2001 is titled "The Mystery of the Vanishing Chandelier", and will be available in 2001. This cd was fully funded with a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. In the summer of 2001, Mr. Berenson completed an ocatve and unison study for full orchestra titled, "...being...becoming...". The year 2000 saw the completion of a trio for violin, cello, and piano as well as a five movement work for violin, viola, and cello. In the winter of 1999 Berenson completed a two movement work for full orchestra. Also in this year was the recording of "Contextual" with Bob Moses and Scott Barnum. In the summer of 1998, Berenson completed a concerto for piano and chamber orchestra. Representations is Adam Berenson's latest fully produced CD, recorded in July of 1997, with international Gramavision and ECM recording artist Bob Moses, bassist Scott Barnum, and bassist Rick McLaughlin. Earlier recordings include Dialectical Constructs, with Moses and Barnum, a self-produced CD of Mr. Berenson's solo piano music, as well as a movie sound-track recording with producer and violinist Matt Maneri. Previous compositions have included works for various wind and string ensembles, a string quartet, a brass quintet, and a trumpet and piano duet. Mr. Berenson has performed original music and standards in the Philadelphia area at the Four Seasons Hotel, Blue Moon Jazz Café, Ortlieb's, and Chris' Jazz Café, as well as in Boston at New England Conservatory and in New York at Syracuse University.Beyond his activities as a performer/composer, Adam Berenson's interests run to journalism. He was formerly the Philadelphia correspondent for the internationally published Pulse! Magazine and as a contributor to the Philadelphia Weekly newspaper.Adam Berenson has completed a Master's degree in Jazz Studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he worked with pianist Paul Bley, bassist Cecil McBee, Lee Hyla, Robert Ceely, and John Heiss among others. Earlier studies included a scholarship for classical piano at Syracuse University as well as a BFA in film production from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU |
