    Press Reviews
3° Below has let another metal assault out in the form of "6", their latest effort and third overall release. 3 Below combines a borderline melodic vocal attack by guitarist Randy Markham backed by the strong vocals of both drummer Chris Myers and bassist Glenn Stephenson with an all out aggressive style which utilizes a screaming almost barking type musical element. This release is very well produced making the sound full and up front. The production of a disc can make or break the success, and 3°Below has accomplished this in fine form. The loudness of this album creates a controlled chaos that is native to the 3 Below sound. The only real drawback is the length. Six songs and only about twenty minutes worth of material on this disc, but this is only a minor complaint. The stretched out smooth riff of the opening track "High Ride" opens the disc and sets the tone for a solid recorded effort with plenty of entertaining highlights. Parts of these songs move into an almost serene silence only to break open into a full galloping movement like heard in the title track. This song includes a psychedelic mid-section which creates a fine break between chunky riffs. Each of these songs has a personality of it's own. The fifth track, "Yours", includes an extremely vocally melodic first part which opens into a guitar slide riff which continually climbs up and down the slope of the sound. The sixth track, "Half a Day", includes an extremely heavy off-time riff which keeps the structure of the song intact and well-formed. No doubt fans of this band will enjoy this latest effort. People not familiar with 3°Below would do well to begin their listening experience with this band by sitting down with "6", a solid disc with no disappointment. -Mario Perotti http://www.power-slave.com
