    Artist History
João Gonçalves, Miguel Silva, Sasch, Victor Silva and Pedro Serra are the lunatics and the Waste Disposal Machine is their instrument for world domination. W.D.M. was formed in 1998, when João Gonçalves, Miguel Silva, Carlos Paiva and Victor Boavista got together by medical recommendation to undergo therapy for their mental disorders. João, a psychopath, is in charge of screaming and writing lyrics; Miguel and Carlos, respectively obsessive-compulsive and manic-depressive, are given the amplified distortions and Victor, neurotic, takes care of the rythmic disturbances using strings. Victor Silva, voyeur compulsive, and Pedro Serra, schizophrenic, join the collective a few months later. Victor is responsible for the rythmic disturbance using skins and metal and Pedro of the pseudo synthetized melodies. The first results of this experience were encouraging: after a short period of adaptation and overcoming some verbal and physical conflicts, the now musicians started to control their neurotic impulses by constructing musical pieces in which they exorcized their paranoia. Here lies the explanation for the SEXtet's name: Waste Disposal Machine - the group as a machine which transforms their individual psychosis into sound pieces. It's at a psychiatric ward in coimbra, Portugal, that the W.D.M. record in digital format their first songs as a test . Following this confinement, new songs are written, some recycled, others simply disposed of. Trying to obtain total control of their disorders the SEXtet exerts in the construction of sound coherence, through matalic distortions, electro-industrial rythmns and umbrageous atmospheres. Ministry, Die Krupps or Frontline Assembly being some of the references. One of the fundamental steps in W.D.M. therapy is the controlled exposure to a social environment, usually known as "live concert". Their first experience occurs in November '99 before an audience of guinea-pigs. The results exceed their expectations and the therapeutical progresses achieved are saluted by all, therefore the sustenance of the treatment is recommended. Thus W.D.M. go back into a period of seclusion culminating in a new session of observation and recording at the same psychiatric ward in Coimbra between March and April 2000. As time Goes By (You Breathe Up Your Life), On / Off, Hate, F:Act, Song For Her (with guest vocalist Rita), Thorn (with Gonçalo Rui adding some guitar work) and Silent Sleep are the songs recorded, of which the band select the first four titles for promotion. Another controlled exposure to a social environment takes place in November 2000, this being the band's real live debut. On this occasion the band saluts the arrival of new member Sasch, sociopath, replacing Victor Boavista who recovered control of his mental disorder and deemed fit to go back into society without any restrictions. Currently W.D.M. are distributing recorded data (CD's and MP3's) national and international specialists, having already received some encouraging feed-back Unfortunately W.D.M. are forced to conclude that, despite the notorious progress in their therapy, a total recovery is unforeseeable and it is impossible to predict that they will ever regain total control of their paranoiac impulses. W.D.M. has actually developed a new mental condition - unconditional love of Music - usually designated as melomania, for which there are only two effective therapies: continuous listening to and playing of music. It is therefore recommended that all therapeutic methods be maintained and re-inforced: multiple exposures to various social environments combined with periods of confinement in clinics specialises in this type of pathology for observation and registration of results by skilled technicians.
