Artist History
What happens when an all-star team of musicians comes together in one band? Meet SUPERMATIC. Combining their talents, the dynamic group features four of the Southeast’s most respected artists, Kevin Lawson (lead vocal), J.J. (lead guitar), Sean McNally (drums) and newcomer Chris Taylor (bass).
Rock quartet SUPERMATIC has quickly made a name for themselves with a mixture of scorching guitars, catchy melodies, and passionate no nonsense lyrics. Formed in late 2001, SUPERMATIC was quickly noticed and nominated for Best Rock Band and Best Emerging Band at the Atlanta Local Music Awards. With their self-titled debut released in 2002, SUPERMATIC was named one of the top 5 Emerging Bands in the country as part of the Jim Beam Emerging Artist Program. That same year they were featured on Rollingstone.com as well as in the debut issue of “Cover†magazine and were awarded a coveted slot at the Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta. “I believe there’s an audience out there for what we do, which is play straight from the heart, to the heart, Rock-n-Roll†says lead singer Kevin Lawson. That belief is obviously proving to be true with audiences and artists alike. SUPERMATIC was invited to play with modern rock bands like SR-71, Flickerstick, Maroon 5, Supafuzz and Will Hoge as well as classic rock icons such as Blondie, the Outfield and Jefferson Starship. “As far as SUPERMATIC is concerned, I’m not the least bit interested in tags, titles or genres other than a being a great Rock-n-Roll band†states Lawson. With influences ranging from Beatles to Stone Temple Pilots and Aerosmith to Cheap Trick, SUPERMATIC taps into the energy and impact that has always been the foundation of genuine rock & roll.
Lawson, an award winning solo singer/songwriter (Best Unplugged-Atlanta Local Music Awards 1999/2001; Jezebel Magazine's Best Unplugged Artist for 2001; ASCAP Songwriter of the Year, 1999), has shared the stage with such notables as the Indigo Girls, Darius Rucker, Shawn Colvin, Ann Wilson, Shawn Mullins, The Pushstars and Josh Joplin. J.J. is best known for his time spent with the Marvelous 3, but has garnered considerable attention with Eliot James and the Snakes and the Pleasantdales. Well known on the studio circuit, McNally has recorded with Dallas Austin (TLC) and Kramer (Urge Overkill, White Zombie), and performed and recorded with 3 Lost Souls. Chris Taylor has played and recorded with Love Star 69 (among others) in LA. Produced by Dito Goodwin (No Doubt and Peter Criss) the band cut a demo but broke up soon after. Chris kicked off his SUPERMATIC debut as part of their Northeast tour in February of 2003.
“I think I’ve said it every time we’ve played and I mean it†says Lawson,†we are SUPERMATIC from Atlanta Ga. and we want to be your favorite band’â€

"Supermatic bandleader Kevin Lawson is a made-for-radio rock star bursting with more MTV charisma than a busload of John Mayers. His new band's current line up is indeed super , with a post grunge power crunch ideally suited to Lawson's solid songwriting" - Greg Nicoll/Creative Loafing, Atlanta
