Artist description
Rising to the Bottom hails from Jackson, NJ. Jessica Martins & Sara O'Reilly make up this amazing acoustic duo. With original songs and soaring harmonies, their acoustic style is unique - and remarkably beyond their years.
Their most defining feature is probably their age. While Jessica is only 17 and Sara 18, their songs contain a wisdom that nowadays can be hard to find. Citing such musicians as Guster, Sheryl Crow, and Lisa Loeb as inspirations, their music takes on the same folky-yet-rocky feel. Their style is diverse and eclectic, so that no two songs ever sound the same. From the slower piano ballad "We've Been Here" to the finger-snapping, upbeat "Good Riddance", to the strong, melodic "The One Who Flew", Rising easily shows just how diverse they can be. Their harmonies are original and strong, and add yet another strong layer to their songs.
Both members of Rising have a long history of music to their names. Sara has been performing in community musicals from a very early age, while Jessica got into the scene during high school. Both girls are self-taught in their instruments, which says a lot about their knowledge of music and how it's put together. They've been performing in local coffee shops and bars for years, and as a result have built a large fan base all over New Jersey.
If you enjoy the music styles of such musicians as Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Mary Lou Lord, Fiona Apple, Lisa Loeb or any other artist that could be found on a Lilith Fair tour, Rising to the Bottom will definitely please your ears. |
