Artist description
The lyrics inspire visions from earthly
exhileration to "the deepest dark corners
of the closets of my mind" (Chased),
delivered powerfully by Miss Margo Jean,
a sexy, emotionally compelling vocalist
whether she belting out a wordless wail
or blending breathy phrases of English,
Spanish and German. Their unique style
combines the excitement of early rock-n-roll
with roots-y elements of blues, hillbilly,
and jazz (not all at the same time). Their
steady rockin' rhythm section makes for some
very danceable tunes, including a few souped
up traditionals (Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms)
which round out their mostly original repertiore. |

Artist History
A mediocre genius at best, Margo is sort of a generalist genius with passions for songwriting, rhythm guitar, writing, health, education, and humor. Her younger brother Joel is arguably the musical super-genius of the Simpson family, with his talent and skill in songwriting, producing, recording, and performing (name any instrument!). Or maybe father Ron is the super-genius, with his self-taught mastery of any stringed instrument he's ever laid his hands on (with the exception of bowed instruments like fiddle, although it's more a matter of not liking it rather than not being great). Then again, when older brother Jeremy pulls out a guitar, one has to wonder if perhaps a recount is in order. Even more, Jeremy's daughters (ages 7-16) are stretching their own wings in singing and picking, so the greatest genius in the Simpson family may not be fairly decided for some time yet.
Fortunately, they're not the competitive type of family. It's more about having fun than being better than anyone. They play together, and not always just for kicks. Joel's Chicago-based rock trio recently put on their shit-kickin' boots and recorded several rippin' rompin' rowdy and raunchy songs of Margo's for her upcoming Roots Rock album COUNTRY FRIED. A few mores of the songs on the CD were written or co-written by Margo's Tucson-based partner Sean Sandefur. Although Sean didn't get to sit in on the Chicago sessions, he is a regular bass and guitar player for Margo's Tucson-based band MARGO JEAN & THE RUBES. |
