Artist History
-The year that the band is formed by Samir and Ilke (keyboards - Goran Ilic born in Belgrade in 1970). Initial name for the band is "Smash". Samir and Ilke collaborate, while Ilke writes the lyrics, Samir focuses on the music.
-Samir and Ilke decide to expand the band. Francuz (drums), Pele - Dejan Petrovic (bass guitar) and Stameni - Dragan Stankovic (rhytam guitar) are joining the band. With this new entourage the band starts rehearsing relentlessly.
-A crucial year for the band's identity. They change their name to "Zeed" (literal translation the wall). Being eighteen, they associate Zeed (the wall) as a structure with social hierarchy that they are so opposed to. Zeed with its powerful message stands like a warning against all that is structured and repressive.
-Some group members have to leave to serve their military service and band works are put on hold.
-1992-A turbulent period for the band. Major changes occur and veteran members Ilke and Pele leave the band making room for a whole new assembly of musicians. Aleksandar Sasha Panich (Mexico), Milena Markovic, Ljiljana Lukic (Liki) and Milena Lukic are joining the band. In this period band works on their first album "Good morning '93" which comes out by the end of 1993. Album features 10 songs for one of which they make a video. Until 1992, "Zeed" plays in Belgrade and Vojvodina on local rock events - "Gitarijada".
-1995-The face of rock music in Yugoslavia changes due to the unstable political situation. A new wave of music becomes popular - "Turbo-folk". This occurrence hinders the rock scene which virtually becomes non-existent. Due to the changes on the music scene, the band regroups and reorients their attention on playing foreign popular rock songs in Belgrade's clubs and caffe's. Disappointed by the popular trends the band decides to leave the country.
-Milena Markovic and Aleksandar Sasha Panich (Mexico) leave for the USA. Soon after Ljiljana Lukic (Liki) follows them while the remaining band members keep on playing in Belgrade. .
-Band decides to split up for an indefinite time. Same year Samir leaves for Los Angeles.
-1996-In this period Francuz, Ilke, Stameni and Milena Lukic join their bandmates in Los Angeles.
-1997-This period proves to be a productive for Samir and Aleksandar Sasha Panich (Mexico) and they work on numerous projects in their studio Area Illusions.
-Band is regrouping (Samir, Mexico, Francuz, Liki and Milena) and starts to play in "Little Rock" (bar in Reseda) every Thursday night. They played hit rock songs from the eighties (David Bowie, U2, Billy Idol). Responding to the demands of young Yugoslavian fans of rock music and nostalgia brings about the return of Zeed. By the end of the same year they start to organize YU-parties featuring songs from Bijelo Dugme, Azra, Corba, EKV, Partybreakers etc.
-These days they are preparing their new album. |
