Press Reviews
'Spilled Drinks Can Lead to Chaos and Mass Destruction' is the new EP from Brooklyn producer Summer Kelly whose influences stretch all the way from My Bloody Valentine to Roni Size and Bjork. Summer's production style is a dark fusion of dubby down tempo/ambient grooves tossed with a bit of drum n' bass vibes. 'While I'm Gone' is a melancholy, mid-tempo track with incredibly sultry vocals provided by Petra Jean Phillipson, while 'Waterdrops' emotes the same kind of tripped out, murky vibe as the Orb's early works. Lastly, 'Regarde' is on the distorted slo-mo drum n' bass tip, with sexy, breathy vocals from Sandrine Ligabue. Solid work from another great producer representing Brooklyn...be on the lookout for this girl!

The soft vocalizations of While I'm Gone and Regarde are carried easily along by intriguing electronic currents and artfully-applied percussion. Ephemeral instrumental Waterdrops takes on Oriental-ish hues over its organically percolating backdrop. Moody Still Breathing incorporates sweeping strings, haunting vocals, thumping rhythms and sparkling synth sounds into its beautiful melancholia. Subdued-though-energetic Elysium Fields precedes the slow, sweet poptronic she-rap of Strangely Fine, which wafts upon ambient waves. Where I Wake Warm closes on danceable grooves and spacey shimmers. Nicely done, I hope to hear more. Visit

Summer Kelly's production in 'Still Breathing' is excellent. Light percussive hits gurgle beneath layered organs and cinematic chords, occasionally rising to prominence as the chords grow more intense, then gently fading to the background. Most impressive about the production is how the soundtrack continually progresses without distracting from or overpowering Ligabue's delicate vocals. Kelly also demonstrates a strong ability to combine classical sounds with electronic sounds, which in itself is an accomplishment.
The most exciting aspect of 'Still Breathing' is its crossover potential. The song is more than a regular drum n' bass track with vocals added as an afterthought. Imagine the potential 'Still Breathing' has to introduce drum n' bass to a whole new audience.
It would be well worth your time to listen to this song.
