Artist description
Do you remember what it was like to hear music
that mattered, but wasn't preachy?
The kind of music that made you forget about
how life can sometimes be, rather than keeping
you in the rut of it. The Electra Complex is that
kind of band. There are no songs about miserable
childhoods, (we didn't have them) no world issues,
no preaching; just good loud rock for the people.
Can I get A Hallelujah?

Artist History
It's simple, five guys, one mission,
to play great danceable, listenable,
shoot from the hip rock. Any questions?
Their sound borrows elements of past genres,
yet is graced with the danceable modern necessity
that gives a pop audience appeal.
Based out of Kansas City, The Electra Complex
has roots with lead singer, John Doom and
guitarist, Chuck Arlund, who formed
"River Phoenix" in the mid 90's.
"River Phoenix was just Chuck and I writing
some demos and trying to get sued for using
a famous actors name for publicity," Doom muses.
"It never really was a band, just us two with
an eight - track recorder and a lot of time,"
Arlund says, "incidentally, we didn't get sued."
After a move to Nashville, eventually, both
Doom and Arlund moved back to Kansas City where
they formed The Electra Complex with Drummer
Chris Lake, a High School friend of Doom's,
and various bassists. The lineup didn't last long
due to bad chemistry. Arlund decided to try his
luck in New York, then re-considered, deciding to
make Kansas City his home once and for all.
He then set about contacting Doom to see if he
wanted to renew Electra. He said yes and shortly
thereafter bassist Mike Gless was found via a
musician's web site.
"I had been playing with a band for a while but
I just didn't see it lasting, so I put an ad on
a web bulletin board and Chuck and John called
me that night." Gless says.
"Mike was the best thing that could have happened
to us, his style is very solid and he really
cemented our sound." Arlund states, "Ironically,
it was Chris who told us about the web site that
we found Mike on."
The three practiced with a drum machine while
searching for a permanent drummer. Re-enter Lake,
who decided on joining the band again after his
other band of two years broke up. Doom let him
hear some of the new material they'd written.
The four, Doom, Arlund, Gless, and Lake clicked
from the first time they played together. Feeling
the need to expand on their sound, second
guitarist Rich Newberry came aboard.
"The sound has really filled out since Rich
joined." Arlund says, "It frees me up to do
more melodic things with the guitar."
The Electra Complex are a band that is on it's
way. They are currently concentrating on
performing locally and regionally while
actively building a fan base and seeking
management and label representation. |
