Artist description There is a band out there called Stranger Spirits, a pop-rock band from the renowned Raleigh/Chapel Hill, NC scene. Since early 2000 they have been bringing melodic, danceable, original music with a rapidly growing following to any venue that supplies an audience with music. Singer/songwriter/engineer Chris Wimberley, (formerly of local NC bands Iscream, Solace, and The Day) met up with engineer/drummer Chris Anderson (Piper Down) and manager/bassist Mark Stover (Big Bright Blue, Drowning at Midnight) through recording sessions for a project at Wimberley's current workplace, Lloyd Street Studios in Carrboro, NC. The result of these early sessions evolved into what was to become the Stranger Spirits' debut CD, "Empty City." In late winter of 2001, a fan and friend of the band introduced them to guitarist John Gardner (Plan R) who completed the Stranger Spirit's sound with his own original, soulful and dynamic playing style. Influenced by a variety of artists and performers from Bela Fleck to U2, the Stranger Spirits are driven to create a NEW sound that can both excite and entertain with enough rhythm and melody to hook its listener, but with enough depth and meaning underneath the surface of the songs to keep the audience listening. Having become familiar with each other's individual styles and strengths in the studio, Anderson, Stover and Wimberley began playing live in the summer of 2000. After only a few months of energetic, crowd pleasing shows it became clear to band and audience alike that they had created something far bigger and better than ever anticipated. The attention paid in the studio to songwriting, sound quality and musicianship had begun to pay off. To promote their recent debut release "Empty City" and fulfill their desire to entertain, the Stranger Spirits are currently booking venues that cater to both acoustic and electric music. They continue to leave a trail of fans behind them, thirsty for more of their unique and danceable brand of tasty, tasty rock.
