Artist History
Born in the late seventies, I grew up listening to all kinds of music.
Mom likes gospel and some country. Dad likes traditional and new country. Big brother likes heavy metal. Big sister likes jazz, country, pop and anything else she's in the mood for. Little brother likes rap and heavy metal, but every once in a while I hear him singing a country tune. I guess somewhere in all of that, I found country music to be my passion.
I was twelve years old when my dad took me down to the local music shop to buy my first guitar. With a box full of baby sitting money, I counted out pennies for the only guitar in the whole place that I could afford. Two years after I bought that guitar, I finally started taking lessons. I dropped out just months later.
With a few chords and a dozen guitar books, I decided to learn on my own.
I was always very shy when it came time to sing on stage. For the longest time, my older sister Jamie would sing with me. Finally in high school I stepped out on my own. My sister made me practice and practice until the night I went out and stood on the stage alone, I opened up my mouth, and . . . . . sang. She came out and joined me for a duet to close the show.
After stepping off the stage that night, I knew there was no going back.
It's been a few years now, and I still haven't "stepped off" that stage. That childhood dream has stuck with me. I fell in love with the sound of music, a pure and undeniable love. I strive to reach the place I see only in my dreams, number one songs, gold and platinum records, sold out venues. . . . . I do it all for the love of music.
I started writing songs when I was eleven or twelve and after ten years, they're finally starting to make sense.
I wanted to write songs because I thought I had to in order to be a country singer. But after I started, I became addicted. Now, my every thought is a song, my every conversation has new meaning, my life is based upon the songs that I write.
I sometimes find myself lost when I am playing in front of a live audience. I get swept away in the emotions of which have given me the strength to follow my dreams. I love to play live and I love to see the faces of those who I entertain and although I use words for my art, I cannot accurately express the feeling that I experience while performing.
Once, I had a man who approached me after a show. He was a farmer who said he just wanted to shake my hand and be apart of history. When I asked him what he meant by that, he responded by saying that he had never met a real life superstar before and now, he had. I was at a loss for words as I graciously accepted his compliment and he went on his way.
Moments like that make it easy to keep going and to keep following the path that I am traveling. I am thankful for the gift I was given and I am thankful for the people who make those moments complete.
I know that I am going to make it in the music business, just ask that farmer!
