Artist History
Clarinetist of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, began to learn recorder with his father at the age of
seven. Then he learned clarinet with Alojz Zupan. After graduating with the same teacher from the
Ljubljana Academy of Music in 1995 he studied at the Salzburg Mazarteum with Alois Brandhofer and
Christine Gillhaus and, 1998, was awarded a Master's degree. He won nine first prizes at national music
competitions. He is Professor of clarinet at the Ljubljana College of Music. He has given concerts in
Slovenia and abroad, and has performed as a solist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Symphony Orchestra of the Darmstadt State Opera, the Zilina Chamber Orchestra from Slovakia and the
Bogdan Warchal Slovak Chamber Orchestra. In 1992 he was first clarinetist in the Youth Symphony
Orchestra in Bayreuth, and a year later also in the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra in France. The
performance of Mozart's Concerto brought him the distimguished student's prize in 1995 (named after
famous poet Preseren). He is member of the Slovenian Clarinet Quartet which has already recorded
many compact discs. He has premiered many works by Slovenian composers, some of which have been
dedicated to him (Nenad First, Marko Mihevc, Jaka Pucihar, Ivo Petric, Primoz Ramovs, Pavel Sivic). In 2000 he recorded his first solo
compact disc together with pianist Tatjana Kaucic with sonatas of Arnold,
Bernstein, Horovitz, Pascal, Poulenc and Petric.
