Press Reviews
“I was very excited to pop this CD in. I didn't know what to expect, seeing as this band features members of Iowa hardcore allstars In Loving Memory and Eclipse of Eden. I was totally blown away.. not ready for this band. They're definitely not another one of those spock rock bands whose members are trying desperately to recreate a already over used sound, in fact I wouldn't even call them a screamo band, although you can hear influences from the scene such as the vocal style which seems to spark a resemblance to a certain band by the name of pg.99. Although vocals sound similar at times, they're definitely in their own ball park and the style really works, especially in contrast with the other instruments well, something that sometimes can be a major problem with hardcore, particularly 'screamo' bands who scream out random ramblings and whines. It's hard to really pinpoint this bands sound although some would call it screamo or even emocore. Think Cave-in meets Orchid with a bit of saetia- esque styling surfacing occasionally. Sometimes their sound is very progressive, which is not common for 'screamo' bands who are usually more focused on fashion then what they should be playing. Listening to this demo I can tell they've spent many many hours working parts out together to make sure everything sounds in place and it really shows. Their musicianship really is amazing. The quality of the promo CD itself is kind of shabby at times from play time, but their sound really shines through. The lyrics sound really good and they fit in well with the songs. They are not cheesy or over-dramatic which is somewhat common with emotional hardcore bands. I highly recommend you contact this band for their releases or go see them live and pick one up! Someone sign them, too.”

Dispensing of False Halos-
The best band to come out of Des Moines since Slipknot. Anybody who scored one of the limited edition
cd’s they made for their fall tour which concluded can hear some of the best melodic hardcore music
being made today. Its one of those mini-cds that fit in your pocket and it comes in a hand sewn cloth
carrying case. Inside is an insert printed on fuchsia astroglide paper (the same paper I used for the Boy hits car, Adema, onesidezero/ 6gig tour promos last summer). Black print on fuchsia astroglide is a definite plus in a dark club. The sold-out limited edition and the 7 track demo recorded in April ‘01 remind me of Poison the Well but the searching musicality of System of a Down. In fact I think SOAD would think they were listening to themselves in some other incarnation if they heard Dispensing. “Saving me, from me” by Dispensing of False Halos: “my open hand/your open hand/our open hearts/as we conquer what lies ahead.../I can not help the way things turn out the way they do/ I can not walk alone even knowing that its hard/ can it be safe to say that we will remain/ will you be there for me when I return for you/ can you save me from me...please tell me no matter what lies ahead in our future that you will be there for me...save me, from me.” The successful 33-day fall tour (‘01) featured gigs with Small Brown Bike and Twelve Hour Turn(FL). Future plans for Dispensing of False Halos: split cd with Circle Takes Square, split 7 inch with COTC (ND)yes, on hot pink vinyl. And a huge U.S. tour in the summer of ‘02 with friends Boywunder. Their favorite place to play in the entire United States: The Liberty, a punk/hardcore/emo/metal collective in North Dakota. -Scott Sigel (online e-zine/ weekly news letter to over 16,000 people +) |
