NARCOSIS ‘Heart Slows Down’ CD (Balowski) I’ll be direct and tell it like it is. Narcosis are the UK’s most exciting grind band. So it can similarly be said about their cleverly titled debut album ‘Heart Slows Down’. There really isn’t much more to it than that. Anyone who has borne witness to their live shows or read about them in these very pages must by now have had their appetites whetted. In fact, there’s nothing more exciting in extreme music than to find yourself being curious about a band simply on hearsay. The great thing is that Narcosis will meet your expectations. Think mid period Napalm Death or even the mighty Excruciating Terror. Then as the opener ‘If You Knew...’ kicks in and vocalist Peet gets into his flow, there really is no turning back. The thick sludgy sounds of the rhythm section suck you right in, and a weird electronics undertow drags you along on a current. The first nine songs are short and tight but the long closing ‘...With A Sickening Thud’ opens up more options for the band allowing you to really understand how the unit interact as musicians. Narcosis are not a one liner band. They do seem to take opportunities to interweave melodic patterns within the brutalising grind, and the monumental sound lets you pinpoint specific elements. A fully absorbing and intense experience. 8/10 satpal kalsi friend of devils ------------------------------------------------- NARCOSIS 'Heart Slows Down' The majority of the first side is crazy fast grindcore, that brings in elements of bands like Disrupt, Phobia and Brutal Truth. Vicious time changes and raging vocals kick the listener down a path of breathless destruction. This five piece is from England and contains the singer from Hard To Swallow (remember them?). One side of the Lp contians five songs of total mayhem, while the other side is one long drawn out crushing metal number that almost seems out of place here. Well wroth tracking this bad boy down for side one alone! (Maximum Rock N Roll)
