Artist History
Eddie Would Go began in Melbourne in 1996. Later that year Eddie Would Go recorded and released a ten track EP titled Journey, which was recorded at Whirlwind Studios in Richmond. Only 500 copies of this disc were pressed and they were sold within a few months at live shows.
Through 1997 and into 1998 Eddie Would Go toured extensively throughout Australia, incorporating regional Victoria and New South Wales, as well as most of Australia's capital cities. Later in that year the band departed on a self funded 30 date tour of the USA, targeting the college circuit, and with the aim of recording a new EP.
The 1998 tour, apart from being a huge developmental step proved hugely successful, and midway though the tour the band recorded its second EP Groundwork at Rabbits Studio in Seattle. The new recording contained seven tracks, and had a definite sound, focus and style, far and away from the melancholy pop recorded on the bands first release.
The Groundwork EP was distributed independently on the band's newly formed Karvin Records label, throughout Australia, but received distribution through Blackmarket Distribution in the USA and Canada. 2000 copies of this EP were pressed, and all were sold by mid 1999. Approximately half of the sales were from overseas.
The release of the Groundwork EP in the USA and Canada was a substantial highlight in the band's career. The EP found its way into high rotation on more than 30 college radio stations nationwide and pushed the single "Natalie's Friend" into the CMJ college radio charts for several weeks, as well as receiving some great reviews along the way.
The following year Eddie Would Go continued to tour extensively throughout Australia, and in August 1999 embarked on their second tour of the USA and Canada, this time with remarkable success. Not only had the radio exposure lifted the band's profile, but the band also managed to secure a number of huge supports including the Supersuckers and Rocket From the Crypt.
Relentless touring, and an excellent live reputation have been the catalysts in the band's success overseas, and has ensured a massive underground following all over Australia. With no major label backing and no significant radio play in this country, the band's live reputation is the most significant factor in its growth.
Fast forward to 2000, and Eddie Would Go recorded their third EP Supercharged with Lindsay Gravina at Birdland Studios in Melbourne. The EP contained five new tracks, and again climbed into rotation throughout the USA and Canada and managed to attract a number of overseas recording deals, including some in Europe.
Eddie Would Go now has a national distribution for Karvin Records though MGM, and does a massive CD and merchandise trade through the internet. Over the next few months the band is releasing the first issue of its fanzine, and the new 15 track self titled album is due out in Ocotber. Look out for the first single taken from the album titled "Coming Down" which was released on July 4th.
Eddie Would Go are touring throughout Australia over the next four months, with several metropolitan and regional shows in most states before heading to the USA and Canada in November, and Europe and Japan for several weeks in December.

Press Reviews
"If Radio Birdman were the old wave of Australian surfing pop/punk, then this is the new. An impressive release for such a young band...... highly recommended".
Bill Frost, of the City Weekly Utah, 1998
"Not knowing what to expect from a band is a refreshing change. With all the energy and unpredictability of the Sex Pistols, the Hard Ons, and Green Day combined, this was one of the most explosive and dynamic punk rock shows I have witnessed...... be ready for it when it comes". Buzz Magazine, November 1999 |
