Artist History
Silent Film Stars are a gorgeous result of boredom with the sterility of genre-strict
bands that are currently dominating underground music. Seamlessly mixing
full-throttle guitar rock, punk, pop, hardcore, and shoegazer-esque sonic
experimentation, SFS has turned a once-entirely-punk band into a timeless
example of what can be done with independent rock music. But that's an earfull,
so let's just say they're not your typical rock band.
The band formed in the winter of 2001, recorded an album, which was basically, a
glorified, nine-song demo, scrapped the album, lost two guitarists, replaced a
drummer, solidified as a trio, and most recently embarked on three very
well-received, self-booked tours of the US throughout the Summer and Fall of
2002. The tours covered most of the Eastern half of the States, including Indiana,
Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennesse, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana,
etc. On weekends, they cover these areas, as well as West Virginia, Virginia,
North Carolina, Missouri, and Illinois. They've played with bands like Not Waving
But Drowning, Sidewalk Slam (Tooth and Nail), Much The Same (AF Records), 7-10
Split (New School Records), Alli With An I (Foresaken Recordings),
Park (Lobster Records), and countless others. Their appeal spans the audiences of
punk, emo and hardcore all the way to metal, goth, and even rockabilly - and they
still haven't figured out why the goth and rockabilly crowds are attracted to them.
In their short span as a touring band, they've caught some rather cool tags like,
"the best new local band," "unbeleivably tight," and "amazing live show."
In the works is a self-released 6 song EP, to be released early Spring of 2003. And
in the very near future, the band will start recording their debut full length release.
Silent Film Stars are currently planning a lot more touring throughout the summer
of 2003. |

Press Reviews
From SWRECORDS.NET News letter #13
I'm old enough to remember punk in the early days.
When news broke that The Pistols were coming to town
it meant lock up your daughters and barricade the house.
"Silent Film Stars" are at the fore front of a generation
of punk bands whose musicianship and song writting
skills are far and away beyond anything from the past.
The track "Go" Kicks in your teeth, smacks you in the ass,
and leers at your mom all in good fun.
