    Artist description
Lindsey Markel has been impressing audiences with her vocal talent since the age of 7, when her family purchased their first karaoke player. Since then she has matured into an artist of her own, attracting a larger fan base every time she graces the stage. Her innate ability to express emotion, feeling, and passion through her voice, makes her unique. Having been influenced by other recording artists such as Celine Dion, Faith Hill, and Michael Bolton, it's no wonder what road Lindsey intends to take. Her music crosses the boundaries of different styles and results in a product all her own. From her innocent start of singing in the garage for family, friends, and neighbors, to recording her first all-original album, to headlining Chicago-area festivals, Lindsey is well on her way to reaching more and more listeners. She has performed on numerous occasions at festivals, theaters, shopping malls, and various city events. Some of which include The DuPage County Fair, Carol Stream Summer In The Center Fest, The Schaumburg Flyers baseball team's Alexian Field, and Recordtown in Bloomingdale's Stratford Square Mall. Lindsey's band includes some of Chicago's finest musicians who provide the background for her live show. These shows have been known to fully captivate, leaving the audience at a standing ovation, in complete amazement. All of this, along with a stunning look and humble demeanor, defines Lindsey Markel as the next new star. As with all up and coming pop artists, exposure is Lindsey's primary focus. It is this focus that has her dedicated and committed to achieving her goals. She is looking forward to more performing opportunities and reaching as many listeners as possible. Lindsey's self-titled record was produced by her manager Mark Blas and is available on Up On The Roof Records.

    Press Reviews
(Courtesy of the front page of the Carol Stream Press/Liberty Suburban Newspapers, Thursday, June 27, 2002) SETTING THE STAGE FOR HER FUTURE "Carol Stream teen has her sights on a record deal"... by Lisa Arnett. Not everyone has recorded their own compact disc before they're old enough to vote, but Lindsey Markel of Carol Stream has done just that. Lindsey, 17, who attends Glenbard North High School, displayed her musical talent as the headliner for Teen Night, an event held June 20 to kick off Carol Stream's Summer in the center festival. "I don't know what I'd do without (singing)", Lindsey said as she waited with her parents and boyfriend before her sound check June 20. "It's a big chunk out of my life...it can calm me down when I'm upset or frustrated." Lindsey's vocal talent was discovered at age 7 while singing karaoke with her family. She then started singing at family parties, karaoke bars and whenever possible. When Lindsey would sing on her karaoke machine in her family's garage, neighborhood children would set up lawn chairs to listen. While singing karaoke at entertainment venue Dave & Buster's at age 12, she met her manager, Mark Blas, who has his own record label, Up on The Roof Recording Inc. Blas put Lindsey together with a band and signed her to his record label, under which they recorded her first single, "You and Me" written by Edmer Abante, when she was 14, and produced her self-titled, four-song album last year. She is seeking a major record label contract and is working on songs for a new album scheduled to be released this time next year, Blas said. With a voice likened to one of her inspirations, Celene Dion, it is no surprise that Dion's ballads are among Lindsey's favorite. "I can just forget that I'm there when I'm singing," she said of Dion's songs. At Summer in the Center's Teen Night, Lindsey performed cover songs as well as original songs from her CD. Her style is a blend of music genres. "Some people say she sounds pop, some say she sounds country," said Blas. "It's really just her. She listens to pop, country, opera...her voice is a product of her variety of interests." Lindsey is just beginning a summer of performances after finishing her junior year at Glenbard North; recent performances included Carol Stream's Relay for life fund-raiser and Elmhurst's Elmfest. She is also the voice of the Schaumburg Flyers baseball team's theme song and will sing at one of it's games at Alexian Field Sunday, July 28. Before a performance, Lindsey said she can often be found eating jalapeno peppers and drinking a lot of water, which helps clear her throat and nose so she can sing her best. Lindsey's powerful voice is accompanied by a band of Chicago-area musicians, Blas said. Band members are Frank Alongi on drums, bass player Errol Brown, guitarist Matt Ross and Paul Mutzabaugh on keyboards. Going from singing karaoke to recording a CD has been a big-yet welcome-change for Lindsey. "There's a lot more responsibility; there's more work involved," Lindsey said of her growing music career. "But it's a lot more fun." Lindsey said she is excited and proud of her accomplishments, yet humble and thankful for the support her family and friends provide. "My parents are very, very, very supportive," she said. "They're with me every second; they're always there when I need them." Though the Markels listen to music and Lindsey's father, Ron, occasionally sings, their family is not especially music-oriented, said Lindsey's mother, Donna. This makes Lindsey's emerging musical talent even more exciting for them. "I'm amazed at the voice she has with no voice training," Donna said. When she is not singing, lindsey can be found enjoying the usual teen-age activities: catching up on sleep; working at her part-time job at the mall; or hanging out with her family, friends and boyfriend. The Markels have taken a wait-and-see attitude as they shop for a major record deal. "I'm working hard on trying to get people to hear me and trying to get my name out," Lindsey said. Meanwhile, she plans to study a field other than music after her graduation from high school next year.
