Artist description
A five piece soul/R&B/rock outfit that brings together its members' collective musical personalities, The Systematics craft a unique spectrum of sounds; strong yet subtle... soft, and never straying from the groove. The Systematics are an electrifying, emotionally raw, musically refined experience that is always in touch with the audiences' need to feel the music. Featuring a sensitive and deeply funky rhythm section fronted by dynamic vocalist Alecia Chakour, The Systematics create a musical experience that is complete: the music is a living organism.
The band is made up of a group of musicians whose common goal is to give people joy through music. That's why every show is treated as a good time; a night out with the gang. So, as a result, a majority of the music written by The Systematics has a certain dance element to it. But instead of relying on old tricks and cliches, the band tends to look for the trickier way around things. In one song, you might hear a folky, fingerpicked guitar line layered onto a heavy trance beat. In another song, you might hear huge swashes of sound over a simple rhythmic pattern. To sum up, this isn't your ordinary funk band.
And unifying these different musical styles and ideas are the vocal talents of Alecia Chakour. Her dynamic range and keen sense of melody helps give each song a purpose and helps make each song a statement. With lyrics that are written by various members of the group, Ms. Chakour can tell stories of desert landscapes, confront ex-lovers, conjure up a plethora of emotions or simply break things down, sometimes all within the same song.
Yet, with all of these different aspects thrown into this musical stew, everything sounds completely organic. With every member giving a piece of him or herself within the context of the music, the songs have a heartfulness to them that is extremely honest. It is with this dedication to their music, to their audience, and to their quest for a good time that the Systematics create a truly exciting and complete musical experience.
