    Artist History
Sonic Renaissance Sonic Renaissance was conceived in the year 2000 in the Pacific Northwest by Stephan Boutenko and Greg Mauser. Inspired by the area's natural beauty, their hope for the new millennium, and their common desire to explore new musical vistas, they merged their previously independent musical ideas into one. The result is their first release, "Vertical Drop". Russian-born Boutenko studied music theory and learned classical guitar prior to immigrating to America at the age of 16 and settling in Denver, Colorado where he continued to learn classical and jazz guitar, as well as electronic music with computer and synthesizers. He went on to perform in restaurants and clubs with a Russian folk singer. He also developed and recorded many jazz and ambient compositions developed via computer and MIDI, and combined them with guitar rhythms and solos. In 1999, Stephan moved to Seattle and shortly thereafter hooked up with Greg Mauser to form Sonic Renaissance. A certified pilot and flight instructor, he finds much of his musical inspiration in flying. Greg Mauser was born in Chicago where he started playing guitar at the age of 14 and has been recording his own music ever since. After having played in countless rock bands, he moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1990 and started playing bass guitar as well. He has performed throughout the Puget Sound area with Spike, Breadline Blues Band, Rhythm Method, and Blind Alley. When he isn't composing or performing, Greg is usually engaged in his new found love of acting and has appeared in many theater productions since 1997.
