Artist description
A Columbus, Ohio based band, 4 of the 5 members began playing together as the praise and worship band at Real Life, the weekly meeting for Campus Crusade for Christ at The Ohio State University. Drummer Josh Lamale and vocalist Dan Miller grew up together in Northwest Ohio, and had written some songs while Josh was attending OSU, and Dan was in high school. In the fall of 2000, Dan joined Josh in the Real Life praise and worship band, and played with guitarist Jeff Arszman. In the spring of 2001, bass player Charlie Wickersham joined the band before they played at "Big Break," a nationwide spring break retreat for Campus Crusade in Panama City, Florida.
Shortly after the band played in Florida, they decided to start their own band, and added drummer Paul Batchelder. The band decided to call themselves ‘Pleading Innocence.’ The name meaning is two-fold. First of all, we can never plead innocence before God. Throughout the book of Job, Job longs for a chance to plead his innocence before God. When he finally gets the chance, God rebukes him (Job 38-40). Also, pleading innocence looks forward to the day when we can stand before God and be found innocent of sin through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Pleading Innocence uses their many musical influences to combine for a unique, rock-based sound. Elements of modern rock, jazz, 80’s metal, and rock n’ roll can be heard throughout their music. Pleading Innocence desires to create original music, without going after any specific style or sound.
Lyrically, Pleading Innocence writes about whatever they are experiencing in life. Because each member of the band desires to have God involved in every aspect of their life, most of the lyrics tend to deal with our relationship with Him. While Pleading Innocence does not set out to write lyrics specifically about God, it is what we know best. To write about anything else would be dishonest.
