Artist History
Bonded by their love for synthesized sound, the three members, vibrant vocalist Jason Stermer, multi-talented keyboardist Ronnie Salvador, and founding member Steve Boler, fittingly met via the Internet
when Steve and Ronnie advertised in various Usenet newsgroups. They were searching for just the right singer who would contributively interpret the songs they composed. After
screening a number of responses, they knew that Jason was the one.
Jason was born with a passion for singing. Like many musical greats, Jason sang in his school and church choirs until his late teens. A few years ago he discovered Karaoke bars and
was immediately hooked by the crowds enthusiastic response. Jason began to dream. One day while surfing the Internet he came across Ste ve and Ronnie's post. He knew it was time to
put feet to his dreams and pursue what he loved most. The fact that Jason lived in Fresno - a three hour drive from Steve and his studio, didn't deter Jason. He was now a man with a
mission, so he sent them a d emo tape. Steve and Ronnie knew it was the match they were looking for, and days later the three devotees met to record a trial song. "His voice fit the
music better than any other singer I have ever worked with," exclaimed the enthused Steve. To height en the excitement, Jason is a great live performer who dances as well as he sings.
The end result: "We can't wait to tour!"
Ronnie's credentials as a house DJ for Bay Area raves along with his unlimited proficiency at the piano and other instruments m ak es him an asset to Eventide. Ronnie's love for piano
goes back to age five when he began learning the keyboard on his own. Recognizing his talent, his grandmother and aunt (both professional performers) taught him how to read
music. In conservatory t raini ng he studied classical technique through his high school years. While Ronnie loved playing music, the vision wasn't birthed within him until he heard
his grandmothers parting words: "You have a natural ability; your talent can take you as far as y o u want to go." That was the impetus Ronnie needed. During highschool Ronnie
followed in his older brother's footsteps and began DJing on the local underground. It is no secret that musical talent runs in Ronnie's family - he grew up with and honed his s ki lls
al ong side world renowned DJ/producer cousin, Mix Master Mike (Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Beastie Boys). In college he took some MIDI classes and "wowed" students and teachers
alike with his ability to program outlandish tribal house tracks that fe at ure d heart-pounding drums, journey-like bass lines, and intricately layered percussion grooves. Amazingly
enough, his compositions weren't even quantized.
Steve Boler is a self taught musician with a timeless flare for the innovative. A virtuoso o f e lect ro nic d ance music, he has been composing since his teens. "When Doves Cry" by Prince
sparked a flame in Steve to learn piano. "I thought the song was so good I had to figure out what made it tick," Steve remembers. That was the start. Some time lat er, S tev e borr owed a
friend's synthesizer and discovered he could create fast and flawless music by hooking the synthesizer up to his computer. Steve, with all of his perfectionist tendencies, was
captivated; and he was on his way. He collected mo re equipmen t, w orked o n perfecting his style and entered one of his techno instrumentals in a local radio station's band competition.
He was ecstatic to learn that he was a finalist. Greatly encouraged and electrified with inspiration, Steve stepped up his pace, d riven to crea te more music. His passion for lyric writing
emerged in the stunning and easy way he connected words to interpret the music he wrote. Entranced, the listener finds himself wondering whether the words evoke the music or the
music evok es the w ords as they f low with a graceful passion. Now Steve was ready for a vocalist. The three-way nexus between Steve, Jason and Ronnie was made, and EVENTIDE was
born.
The group has been called "NRG," "Euro-dance," "Techno," "Electronica," and m ore. Whil e the y may be a ll of that, one thing is certain - they are unique. EVENTIDE smoothly
fuses DJ mentality, pop sensibility and a futuristic essence to create their magnetic concoction. Analog and digital synthesizers, a sampler, and a bea t box c ombined wi th irr esistible
v ocal hooks are the foundation of EVENTIDE's infectious sound. "The juxtaposition of a warm human voice against the stark exactness of a computer is the undeniable metaphor for
twenty-first-century man and his relation ship wit h the machi ne...th e powerful c onnection of man and his creation," says Ronnie.
The trio came up with the name "Eventide" because that's when Steve, Jason and Ronnie thrive. For the first time the three members have finally found musical and social c ommon
ground in a band. They fee l that not only do you have to share similar taste in music in order to be in a group, but it's also important that you get along overall. Eventide released a
single to College Radio in the summer of 1998 and r ecieved regular rotati on on a handful of Col lege and Commercial stations along with being included on radio trade magazine CMJ
New Music Weekly's CD. They were also included on a compilation of electronic bands "Y2K Compliant" alongside their idols "In formation Society."
E ventide has reached the point where they are focusing on musical substance and professionality more than ever before. Out of 30,000 bands, Eventide was just selected as "Featured
Band of The Day" on Garageband.com, a site founded b y Beatles Producer Sir George Martin. If success is ever to be found, it will be now. The future looks bright for Eventide. |
