Jadi Norris-Biography
Talent, dedication, and more talent is the best way to describe Jadi Norris.
A gifted songwriter, musician, and performer, Jadi got his start in the foothills of North Carolina. It was there that he first performed for an audience. At age five he stepped up to the microphone as part of a local gospel radio show. Even then,
it was obvious to all that with a little luck and the grace of God, this little country
boy would sing his way to the top of the music industry. Self-taught on piano, guitar, harmonica, and Hammond organ, Jadi sought every opportunity to perform. Getting paid was not an issue. Stardom was not even conceived of in Jadi's mind, he plainly and simply loved playing and singing for anyone who would lend an ear.
Jadi's father took notice of his son's affinity for making music and helped him to obtain his first experiences in the industry. Taking his boy to several local nightspots, Sonny would arrange for his boy to sit in with the bands.
"I sure appreciate what those fellas did for me" says Jadi today. "They showed alot of patience and taught me what real performing was all about. I don't think there are many instances where a kid can get that now." Soon Jadi was on his way to assembling what would be his first band. Doing free shows for charity soon led to paying gigs. Up and down the East Coast, Jadi and his friends played
in club after club, festival after festival, all the while doing his homework backstage.
After graduating High School, Jadi took the reins of the group from his father, who now concentrated on the business end of things. The boundaries
expanded from North and South Carolina to include Georgia, then Florida, then Alabama, and so on. Pretty soon, Jadi and the boys were covering the entire southeast United States.
All this experience only fueled Jadi's desire to go farther, or "further", as he would say in his soft drawl.
Seeking the real world experience he needed, the young man sang five, sometimes six nights a week, week after week. Traveling to Canada, Alaska, the Mid-West, and finally to the Southwest, where he now resides with his wife, Tara, and his daughter, Collette. "I wanted to honky-tonk as hard as I could," says Jadi. " I wanted the same kind of life that my heroes had, the same struggles. I found a lot of inspiration on those thirty-hour drives and being away from my family for three months at a time."
Soon after visiting the Desert Southwest, Jadi decided to settle in Tucson, Arizona. There he quickly became a major part of the local music scene. Within a year of his first gig there, Jadi's group was awarded with two "Tammies", the Tucson equivalent of the Grammies.
Soon, Jadi was opening for national act after national act, over one hundred so far, building a loyal following. When he wasn't performing, he was master of ceremonies at a local nightspot, he was a deejay, he produced commercials, and played on ten other albums for local artists in the Tucson/Phoenix area. A prolific songwriter as well, Jadi has penned over 75 of his own songs.
Jadi's two Cd's, Workin' Man's Saturday Night (1998) and Nothing Like You
(1999) show where all this led. Written entirely by Jadi, the songs reflect his life and times. The first Cd is raw and energetic, recorded live at the Cavern studios.
On the Nothing Like You Cd Jadi plays nearly every instrument, sings every vocal part, and produces, emerging with a stellar example of Modern Country music.
What's next? Only God knows for sure.
But Jadi is optimistic." I look forward now instead of backwards. I'm just gettin' started!"
The Jadi Norris Band, the present live group, assembled late in 1999
with Noah Essig on bass guitar, Phillip DeStuigers on keyboards, and Chris Coppus on drums.
They have opened over fifty national shows as well as backing up artists as diverse as LeeAnn Womack and Clay Walker to Linda Ronstadt, Charlie Daniels and Kenny Rogers. These young innovative pros bring the Jadi Norris Band to a level of quality rare in today's music scene, local or national.
" We have one goal in mind," says Jadi. "We want to show the world of Country Music that we deserve a spot alongside the big boys. We're ready."
Life is good now-and it can only get better.
