Artist History
Using the power of music to express one's anger
and emotion is the philosophy of one of
New York's most intense heavy metal bands,
Through The Discipline. Formed in May of 1997,
the band has flourished and continues to
surprise and inspire the growing breed of
intense music listeners. This unique group
of individuals combine melodic and extremely
dark, fast-paced styles of writing to create
a well-polished sound that is unmeasurable.
The voice of T .T .D was first displayed in
their self-titled 4-song demo tape which was
produced using a 4-track recorder in a basement.
Fed to the public in the summer of '99, the
recording received a great amount of positive
feedback and gave the band confidence to move
on. In pursuit of an individual goal, bassist
Anthony Dohnert left the squad on good terms.
Vocalist Mike Centrone, guitarist Luis Ramirez
and drummer Allen Benatar faced a dilemma that
was never dealt with but was handled
professionally. One of their fondest fans,
Nick Choi, joined the band and clicked almost
immediately. Influenced heavily by great metal
acts such as Slayer, Pantera and Sepultura,
Nick upgraded Through The Discipline's already
intense writing style.
"Vivid and Unnatural Destruction" debuted in
the summer of 2000 and was recorded at
Three Piece Studios in Brentwood, NY.
The 5-Song EP was a reflection of the hardships
and challenges the band was encountering.
Mike's gritty vocals and Allen's powerful
percussions meshed well with Luis's demonic
riffs and Nick's intelligent execution of
consistent wrist action. Many copies of the
album were sold throughout the east coast of
the U.S and some parts of Europe and Japan.
Unfortunately during the band's time of
progression, Nick began to drift away from
the desire and determination that was evident
in his early stages of performing. Once again,
though, T. T .D was prepared to fill the void.
After auditioning for many acts, guitarist
Pat Reilly found his match and joined
Through The Discipline in 2001. The smoothness
and complexity of his playing style successfully
enhanced the aggressive flow of the band's
writing mode. With new blood and new life,
T. T .D returned to the studio and released
"Our Lady Of Death" in the fall of 2001.
Their second 5-song EP was recorded and
produced at Torbill Studios in Lindenhurst,
NY. Given the sound quality and the
colorfullness of the songs, "Our Lady Of Death"
is currently circulating nationwide and worldwide.
Nothing but compliments and positive reviews of
the work have convinced Through The Discipline
that there is no limit to where and who they can
reach. This well-oiled machine has performed
in many venues on the east coast of the
United States and continues to gyrate a buzz
all around. They hunger most for spreading their
creation to all corners of the globe. No stone
will remain unturned during
Through The Discipline's journey towards
excellence in the music genre. |

THROUGH THE DISCIPLINE
"Our Lady of Death”
Self-financed
Through The Discipline presents on this disc only five tracks but
they’re enough to appreciate the talent of this quartet. The beginning -
„Quit Life” and „Hunted Down” should please most fans of powerful riffs,
intelligent structures of the tracks and strong vocals. Boths song are
remarkable and show that the band has the abbilities to play melodic yet
aggressive kind of death metal which - if you want - can be called
deathcore but to be honnest I don’t think that is’s a serious problem
how to classify such music. It should be enough that it’s good,
especially when in „Hunted Down” the band speeds up . The third track
„Hell’s Wish” has the parts that frankly are the weakest (what doesn’t
mean - weak) on this recordings (of course in my opinion, many of you
will be delighted hearing them), still melodic, but without the strenght
of the previous ones. Perhaps my impressions are false but especially in
middle of this track the guitar work reminds me of latest Chuck
Schuldiner’s recordings with some Scandinavian elements. The track no. 4
- „Requiem Mass” is somewhere between the first two and „Hell’s Wish” -
again powerful and melodic riffs joined in the interesting way. The last
song - „The Open Flame” is closer to the third one - good tempo changes
and clever solos are its strongest points. The whole MCD (already second
in the history of the band) deserves the positive notes. Through The
Discipline isn’t afraid to diversify its music: it’s a real virtue. They
are able to do it because they’re skilful musicians. Like each listener
I have own vision how they should develop - to go the way shown in
„Hunted Down” so aggression + heaviness + technics without too many
catchy riffs that dominate in the next track. But of course it’s only
one of the possible directions. I’m sure that whatever the authors of
„Our Lady of Death” will do in the future, it will be the next proof
that they really know how to play metal music.

Review By: Garrett
Through The Discipline is an insane metal band from Queens, NY that holds it down in the New York Hardcore scene. Their 2000 EP, "Vivid And Unnatural Destruction" had one cut-throat song after another. Every song had brutal beatdowns that made you just wanna' spin kick someone in the face. After that EP they dropped something even more impressing. Their album "Our Lady Of Death" that was dropped in 01' is honestly jaw-dropping. With Mike's unbelievable voice, Lou and Pat's fast and brutal riffs, and Allens crazed speed and control there is no way you cannot feel TTD. These guys should keep droppin' bombs.

SELF RELEASED CD: "Vivid And Unnatural Destruction"
Through The Discipline is a Queens based metalcore outfit that mix in breakneck riffs with slow, dirgy breakdowns and guttural death metal vocals to create a neck snapping sound that's bound to get your blood pumping ("Wooden Flesh"). Headbanging enough for horned hands to go up in the air, TTD has got the basic premise of Asskicking 101 down pact ("Say It In Words"). Blending Madball with Morbid Angel, these guys have got the best sounds in the world of heavy music working in unison. A good mix and a good disc for those that crave the darkside of rock and roll.

Review By: HARDCORE UNDERGROUND
Wow, this self-produced masterpiece of metal is nothing short of 100% kick ass. If you took Melodic Death, Death metal, and a small touch of hardcore and blended it together you would get this band. The production is actually really good, everything is clear, and has a full sound. The songs are extremely heavy, yet well written and not boring at all. The riffs are changed up constantly so the listener can never know what to expect. This is a band that obviously gets the pits to become violent. It’s impossible not to get into the music on this cd, it’s just written so well. In the cd you will find a few good guitar solos, a lot of heavy parts, and amazing vocal work. I personally cannot wait to hear a full-length album from this band. LABELS; TAKE NOTICE OF THIS BAND. This cd is a must have for any fan of extreme metal.
