Artist History
In the mood for a completely different and exciting musical experience? You owe it to yourself to see up and coming jazz artist, Jeane July. Prepare to be swept away into the sensual, primal rhythms uniquely hers. Her musical style combines the sounds of sultry Brazilian Jazz, Pop and R&B.
Jeane, an accomplished vocalist has sung back up for such notables as Brenda Russell, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., Evelyn Champagne King, Ronnie Lane, Liza Minnelli and Billy Preston. She also toured internationally with the Philadelphia based group The Three Degrees. She is featured in the soon to be foreign release version of the VH-1 original movie “The Way She Moves”.
Music has always been an important part of Jeane’s life. A native of Houston, Texas, she attended and graduated from the High School for Performing and Visual Arts. During college she performed with the Houston Grand Opera both as a singer and dancer. Her strong voice and acting abilities won her a part in the Broadway revival of Rogers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical “Showboat”. After her stint in New York, she returned to Texas working as a lead vocalist in several local bands, as well as jingle and parody work for radio stations and their affiliates in New York and California.
Always looking for new avenues of creative expression, Jeane relocated to Los Angeles where she currently resides. She has recently completed her original compositions for her soon to be released LP. Her music is distinctively different from any you have heard. Although the listener feels the flavor of some of Jeane’s favorite musical influences like, Earth, Wind and Fire, Tania Maria, Stevie Wonder, and Al Jarreau, her songs are fresh, innovative and entertaining. You are pulled into her world of mesmerizing visual images, and a kaleidoscope of emotions captured in the melody and lyrics of her work. The haunting, soul-searching ballads mixed with the erotic faster tempo songs provides a magical trip into a new realm of music.
Accompanied by a seven-piece band, Jeane has picked the best of LA’s musicians. All have worked with a range of various well-established artists such as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Angela Bofill, Teena Marie, Macy Gray, Kirk Whalum, Everette Harp, Brian Culbertson, and Clarence Clemons. These players add to the excitement of Jeane’s captivating performance. Don’t miss the chance to experience it live and in person!
