Artist description
Toe Jam is best known for their version of "Plastic Jesus" which is in Kevin Smith's new film "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". How did we get a song in a Miramax film? We used the free resources of the internet, Napster and mp3.com to get our music out, that's it. Miramax tracked us down through our mp3.com site. The song is used in the scene where Jay and Silent Bob are picked up hitchhiking by a nun, played by Carrie Fisher. Toe Jam is an international mix of musicians from Houston, Texas and Cercedilla, Spain (just NW of Madrid). At the core are three Hench brothers, Stan and Mark in Texas and Paul in Spain. Paul does most of the lyric writing and plays percussion (cajón, udu, etc.) and drums; he's lived in Spain for the last 20 years. Mark plays lead and acoustic guitars. Stan plays bass, guitar and does most of the Texas production work at his home-studio. Ron "Silver Bullet" Coffelt puts the icing on the cake with his extraordinary vocals. The Spanish musicians are Ramiro Ruiz L (originally from Loja, Ecuador) who plays acoustic guitar, harmonica, and composes many of the songs; Paco Calvo (Valencia, Spain) on bass; Rodolfo del Fresno (Madrid) plays electric guitar and does most of the arranging. Paul, Ramiro, Paco and Rodolfo, along with guitarist and percussionist Miguel Angel Ferradas (Los Molinos, Spain), make up the group PIES NEGROS, which performs occasionally in the Sierra of Madrid. Both Paul and Stan run the same recording software and this allows them to record together despite living in different parts of the world. |

Artist History
Hench brothers Mark and Stan have been jamming for years. Two years ago they met a great vocalist in Ron Coffelt and asked their brother Paul (who lives in Spain) to write some songs. Paul started putting lyrics to compositions by Ramiro Ruiz L, and Toe Jam was born.Mark y Stan Hench llevan años tocando. |

Press Reviews
This Acoustic Blues band have really nice wooden tones recorded, which is so refreshing when 95% of musicians don't understand how much depth a properly recorded acoustic guitar adds to a song. The accompanying electric slide leads blend well with the singer's lazy inflections and the songs' sombrero siestas. - Eric Shea (from listen.com). |
