ARTIST: THE LOUTS SONG: SURF HICK GENRE: OTHER / COUNTRY SURF PUNK SIMILAR: GREEN DAY AND THE BEACH BOYS LOVE CHILDREN -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A surfin' cowboy... hmmm, I had to hear this one. I saw this in the slush pile and snatched it for myself. Surf Punk is of course the new twist in music; Fred Durst has himself mentioned adding this feel to his music... Right. This is gonna catch on, wink, wink, nudge, nudge. So, I'm sitting here waiting and much to my surprise, these cowpokes can play. The bassist gets it started with a pretty standard beat that just keeps pounding in your head. I hear the punk influences, now I'm waiting for the Waylon Jennings \ Beach Boys feel. The beat and the grind of the song are unoriginal - which surprised me coming from a band that is original enough to try to genre mash Country, Punk and Surf together. After about a minute I can hear some of the country influences. Albeit sped up, I can still hear it in there. The vocalist has a pretty typical Green Day-like delivery, nothing new there either. Bottom line; nothing new but you gotta love a song about a surfing cowboy. Charisma: 10.00 Technical Skill: 5.50 Structure: 5.50 Interest: 7.00 Lyrics: 10.00 Performance: 7.50 Arrangement: 5.50 Recording Quality: 8.00 Long Term Appeal: 8.00 OVERALL: 7.40 Went out to the Louts site to review a song, and ended up listening to nearly their entire site. The Louts are a very tight band with a unique punk/greenday/farm metal sound (yeah, I stole that from you dave/dredged). In fact, I second the motion. The Louts have defined a new genre: Farm Metal. There's no other way to describe it. Tight, fast, driving, wacky punk/metal."7 Days to Dogde" gets an 8 (of 10). Great drum/bass "Radar Love" rhythm thing going that drives you through the song."Beechnut Chew" gets a 7 (out of 10). This was my second favorite song. Again, that tight driving grind is infectious.Overall, THE LOUTS get a 7.5 (out of 10) as a band, due to their overall sense of identity and continuity in their music. As they mature as a band, they will be a solid 8 (out of 10). These guys are carving a unique niche in alternative "Farm Metal."LVPReview: The LoutsSong: 7 days to dodgeWoah, this is some wierd shit. Had me laughing. Musically it sounds firm. You guys would be fun to see live, too bad I'm from indiana.Song: Beechnut chew (just had to listen to it)Rockin' Intro. Man this shit is funny. I really don't even know how I would classify this song "FARM-METAL"???? I liked this song a lot. Overall its good to see some guys just cut loose and wail. Rocking tunes and hilarious lyrics.check em out for yerselfs:http://www.mp3.com/thelouts reviewed by dave of dredged
