    Artist History
A distant relative of Felix Mendelsshon and Martin Buber, Eyran Katsenelenbogen was born in Israel on July 5, 1965, and started taking piano lessons at the age of five with Aida Barenboim - mother and teacher of pianist / conductor Daniel Barenboim. In 1984, Eyran began his eight-year long apprenticeship with acclaimed Israeli pianist Menachem Wizenberg. After a series of solo performances held at Jerusalem Music Center, Katsenelenbogen was contracted by the Jazzis record label. “Jazzonettes” and “One Time”, recorded for Jazzis in 1989 and 1992, won high praises in the Parisian Jazz Hot magazine and the Jazz Journal of London, which dubbed Katsenelenbogen “an emerging talent to watch”. In addition, the American National Library of Poetry published the pianist’s poetic work from his CD companion booklet in its ‘96 anthology. On the basis of his recordings, Eyran was granted a scholarship by the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he studied with pianist Ran Blake, and collaborated with Danilo Perez, George Russell, Jimmy Heath, Gunther Schuller (a performance reviewed as “exemplary” by the Boston Globe) and many others. He graduated in 1997, with Academic Distinction, Excellence in Performance, Pi Kappa Lambda and four consecutive National Dean’s List awards, and was appointed by the conservatory to teach for its extension division - a position he currently fulfils. Eyran.com, launched in 1998, is the Internet center of Eyran Music Global Network, which now includes numerous venues such as Amazon.com, Lycos Listening Room, MP3.com, Listen.com, Jazzis.com, IUMA.com, CDAlley.com and NorthCountry Distribution. Since its debut, Eyran.com has generated over 10,000 downloads of Eyran Music, CD sales, international recognition and accessibility on all major search engines. Eyran has recently released his forth CD “Formation”, partially produced by pianist Paul Bley. The CD “One Is Not Fun”, sponsored by The American Foundation For Autism, is in final production stages.

    Press Reviews
Francois Thomas, Jazz Hot, Paris ... One should command the undeniable qualities of this young composer, who knows to tell a story with his improvisations, and even furthermore, knows how to turn the listener to a loyal companion for a journey in which one meets Bartok, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and the virtuosi of classical music - Horowitz, Pollini... Editorial ReviewsPat Haws, Jazz Journal International, London One Time comes strong on music, played by this very talented pianist who provides us with stimulating piano playing. It features jazz playing strongly reminiscent of New Orleans keyboard men Professor Longhair and James Booker and is very effective. This album is a pleasure to listen to, with warm, full sound and excellent definition. It ends with a beautifully quiet, intimate version of a superior song. An emerging talent to watch. Frank Rubolino, CADENCE: THE REVIEW OF JAZZ&BLUES: CREATIVE IMPROVISED MUSIC VOL. 25 NO.1 JANUARY 1999 Israeli Katsenelenbogen is a classically trained pianist who has been studying and playing in the USA for several years. As a promotion for his upcoming album Formation, he produced the shortened CD Solo Piano using venues in and around Bostons New England Conservatory from which he recently graduated. Katsenelenbogen takes a serious and concentrated approach to his playing that is at times introspective,, at times explosive, but at all times dynamic and challenging. You can hear in his playing a deep-seated intensity that filters into the bowls of the tune where all nuances are fully explored. It does not matter if the songs are his own creation, a Monk tune as on Brilliant Corners, or a Blind Lemon Jefferson piece as on Prison Cell Blues. The music is all Katsenelenbogen as he injects his personality into the totality of the songs. With a strong penchant for the left hand, his music paints from a somber palette. Although he plays in a much more invigorated manner, you can occasionally hear the effects of Katsenelenbogens association with Paul Bley. Bley supervised some of his recording sessions and therein must originate the introspective side of his playing. Yet his extroverted side shines through regularly in stirring runs and bombastic clusters of notes. He has the unique quality of giving any composition his own stamp of individuality.
