Confused? Let me explain. Carson Catlin, better known as djcarcar, received a softwareprogram called Mixman as a Christmas present last year. The program allows him to sample from other songs, as well as create his own musicmix from the software itself. The product is electronic-style music, ala Aphex Twin, Crystal Method, or Fatboy Slim, with a little funk mixedin to help you get your groove on. djcarcar recently released his first album, "quarantine," on Higher Step Records. Taking most of his influence from bands like INXS, Depeche Modeand Duran Duran, djcarcar found a way to mix the pioneering alternativesounds of the '80s with the metal sound of Nine Inch Nails for a formidable industrial-rock-meets-techno soundthat jumps, weaves, pounds,and bumps. If it's hardhitting lyrics you're looking for, you won't findthem in djcarcar's music. With the exception of a funky little rap tunecalled "C.W.A.," djcarcar mixes pounding baselines in some songs to makeit interesting. But who needs words with these beats, anyway? djcarcar has been spinning his tunes in the Evansville area for the past year. His fast-paced, high energy performances are appealingto the techno-lovers of the world. Dancing is always an option, butdjcarcar said the goal of his shows is not to jam the dance floor. "You don't even have to dance, just listen," he said.
