Artist History
!Bang Elektronika is a post-Industrial / Elektronika project based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Their music is best described as techno-gression: Industrial strength Techno with aggressive vocals. Elements of Industrial and dance music keep the energy high, while Gothic influences add a dark and sinister undertone. The band is fronted by synthesist / vocalist Andreas Gregor, a seven year veteran of Digital Poodle. !Bang Elektronika first began in 1988, when keyboardist David Rout was looking to start an experimental project. After two local cassette releases, Andreas and Dave recruited Kris Helstrom on drums, and the band's sound began to focus on Techno-Industrial material.Their first release as a trio was a six song cassette titled "Aktivierung". Two songs from that cassette appeared on the "Metro Tekno" compilation CD, released by San Francisco based Silent Records in 1992. After many live shows and more time spent in the studio, ! Bang Elektronika released their first full length CD entitled "Aktivierung" on Germany's Hyperium label in 1995.In 1996, due to conflicts of interest between the band and management, !Bang Elektronika was once again without a recording contract and legally bound not to release anything using that name. After performing at the 1996 National Association of Campus and Community Radio Conference David Rout decided to leave the band. Andreas and Kris put the project on hold and continued to play percussion and drums as part of Digital Poodle, which they had been doing since 1991. In 1998, Andreas decided to once again take up the cause, after regaining the right to record as !Bang Elektronika. He recruited new members Paul Jaworski and Steven Blezy, and returned to the studio. Also added, is new back up singer Monique Albert, (formerly of Voice Industrie) whose vocals add to the dark Gothic undertone of the music. They have performed at the 1999 North by North East music conference in Toronto, completed a four song CD entitled "Isolation" and have a new album complete. In addition to club performances, the band has been doing numerous local television and radio appearances. !Bang Elektronika is now searching for a new contract or for new licensing arrangements. |
