    Artist History
Built from the core of Rat Salad, the Bay Area’s Black Sabbath tribute band, that played countless gigs and a devoted fanbase, Al Silveira (Guitar, Vocals) and Dave Baxley (Drums) went into the studio in January of 1998 to record some songs they had laying around, but were far different from the Rat Salad staples. From that first recording, came the foundation of F8. In April 1998, the recruited Andy G. (Guitar) into the band to help fill the band out. In between auditioning for bass players and firing bass players, they wrote many songs, putting a lot of the frustration of not having a steady bass player into them. In January of 1999, the band went back into the studio to record 7 new songs. They were so different from the last recording, that only a few songs survived the transition. Songs like “Before I Awaken”, mixing heavy, down-tuned pounding with hard edged vocals; “Peace”, with it’s slow, Down/Pantera influenced rhythm and strong Alice in Chains-type harmonies; “Below”, and all-out hard hitter; and “Pain”, aggressive and angry with a few twists; helped the band refine it’s sound. Of the older songs that were kept, “Echoes” is the standout with heavy, thick guitars and vocals, with a crashing chorus; “Sadness New” recalls Rat Salad’s days playing Sabbath, with slow, heavy chugging with soaring vocals. Now, in late 1999, the band has a mission. “We’re still writing songs monthly, refining them, making them the best and hardest we can. Having a bass player really was that missing piece.” With new songs like “No” and “Fade”, F8 is getting ready to bring even more songs to the plate. Having already played the Cactus Club, the Quarter Note, and the Aptos Club with overwhelming response, they are planning on spreading the music as far out as they can. In early 2000, F8 will be releasing it’s debut album, “Fate”, in stores. 2 years in the making, the product is well worth the wait.
