Artist description
Probably the first-ever virtual «alternative country-rock» band!
Born in Portugal, the brainchild of producer Paulo
Miranda, the Unplayable Sofa guitar is a consistent
sequence of songs, autobiographic, biographic or
simply inspired.
Ranging in style from the dense/dramatic sounds
of grunge rock into the floaty country ballads,
this album includes never before attempted
excursions through some of country music's
"untouchables" such as Frank King's «Tennessee
waltz» and Hank Williams's «I'm so lonesome I
could cry».
Nine original songs feature three new singers
plus a large number of participating
instrumentalists (three guitar players, four
bass players, two drummers, one percussionist
and one keyboardist).
Not to be discarded is the fact that neither
of these ever met to date, not even during
the extensive recording process (that took
place at amp studio in Portugal) turning
this into a virtual band.
No rehearsal ever took place to prepare any
of the songs, all recording takes were the
result of first impact of the song or/and
lyrics upon the interpreters.
Plus, all the recording process was turned
"upside down", that is, recording was done
in reverse order; theme and harmonies first,
vocals next, then bass and finally drums.
No metronomes were used in any part of the
recording.
The idea behind all this was to create a
«live-blind» ambience, where all the music
would be performed by feeling, no guidelines,
no boundaries, nothing of the usual "restrictive"
methods employed in normal record production.
The result is an innovative approach to either
rock or country music, or whatever you decide
to call this. An album, product of feelings
and artistry. |
