Artist History
Once upon a time…
1965…A garage band forms in San Jose, California and does their first gig that year playing the best music of the era - Beach Boys, Beatles, Motown, etc.
2001…The band is still together and gigging, doing the same classic music, as they have continuously since 1965!
The band… PAPA DOO RUN RUN. They played at your high school – or at your parents'! They were Disneyland's "Celebrity House Band" for 15 years!
They've done stints along the way as opening act and back-up band for Jan & Dean, and the Beach Boys;
came close to cracking the Top 40 in 1975 with a cover of the Beach Boys "Be True To Your School" (produced by Bruce Johnson for RCA);
released a Grammy nominated (they’re good at what they do) collection of Beach Boy covers called "California Project" (1985, Telarc), which made it to No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 CD chart.
The band is legendary among surf music aficionados around the world.
For years their fans have been asking; "Why don’t you guys do some original songs?"
The thing is, the band sounds SO good, and is SO successful doing all those great covers,
that they've just kept their original songs to themselves. Well, all that cajoling has paid off.
Using their best musical instincts from the era in which they grew up, PAPA DOO RUN RUN
has put together their first ever ALL ORIGINAL CD. "Santa Cruz" is dedicated to (and mostly about)
one of the coolest beach cities anywhere. It was the band's stomping ground when they were growing up.
After 35 years, it’s time for a little overnight success. |
