    Artist description
About Freak Lamp (Stoopid iz az Soopid Duz, Capitolist Records, 1967): Released in 1967, unreliable sources have it rumored that John Bonham (of Led Zeppelin fame) actually sat in for Maynard Rimsticker (aka Manny Starr) on drums for the Freak Lamp recording session during what pop history has remembered as Maynard's "Lost lunch hour"! Controversy and mystery aside, it's easy now, to look back and see what visionaries this "proto-punk" pop band really were. Eschewing the Eastern instruments and moody, introspective LSD influenced lyrics that were being popularized by such groups as the Beatles, Timmy and the "Intellectuals" committed commercial suicide by releasing their album "Stoopid Velvet Peace Rainbow" the day after the release of the Beatles' smash hit 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' LP, and by pioneering early elements of thrash, blended with the beach pop, early electronic music and the Las Vegas stylings of the day. Teen audiences, weaned on Fabian and the Everly Brothers, were simply unprepared for the sonic onslaught of such genre bending Rock and Roll expressions as "I Want to Touch Your Foot", "10 Reasons I Love My Tongue (1 Reason You Love My Tongue)" "The Nardo Dance"and "Freak Lamp". For more than 30 years, critics have labeled Timmy's music as "Really stupid", "..so stupid I can't stand it!" and "…totally beyond stupid!" while fans have noted that Timmy's ground breaking style may well have been an inspiration for glam rock bands such as T-Rex and such later punk-era bands as the Ramones. Indeed, this "Stoopid" song was so far ahead of it's time, that it's awe inspiring how artistically irrelevant, utterly pointless and out of fashion it still is! Freak Lamp is definitive Timmy Stoopid & The Psuedo Intellectuals! Remastered and presented here in Stereo, for the first time ever!
