Artist History
Formed in fall of 2001 by guitarist/vocalist Ben Powell, Life of the Common is an extension of the alterna-pop that this musically gifted classical pianist was crafting with his first band 7 past 6. When Ben met lead vocalist Danny Tilman during his first few weeks of college, they formed an immediate musical partnership. What was left for the two is to create a band that could propel and execute their shared musical vision.
Next Will Decher was introduced to the duo through a friend. Originally signed on to play bass, when Danny decided that he desperately wanted to expand his musicianship to electric bass, Will moved over to his primary instrument, lead guitar. From this point, the trio began to mold the songs that Ben had written into their own unique blend of pop song structure, alternative chord voicings, blistering guitar solos and melodic vocal hooks. What they didn’t have, and desperately needed, was a drummer.
The group found the answer to their prayers when Adam Lee, former drummer for the heavy metal band Fidy Five joined their ranks. Now, that the group had a hard rocker to lay down a rhythmic pocket for them, they were ready to record.
In the spring of '03, Danny Tilman left the band to pursue interests in the performing arts, and the band wishes him the best of luck. Replacing him is Matt Walkley, former a capella singer with an amazing voice. Will Decher has also left to start a project of his own, look out for him in the near future.
Life of the Common is currently looking for a second guitar player and bassist.
