Press Reviews
Review from The Noise; a Boston music magazine.
"Insoma's music is an eclectic blend of musical styles and sensibilities. The band is composed of singer/songwriter Kenn Ballou and percusionist Thomas Holden, and though their influences are Jane's Addiction, Zappa, Pink Floyd, The Police, and David Bowie, they sound much less like that and more like Jeff Buckley impersonating Neil Young covering a Doors tune with Tom Waits' backing band. The last song, "Highwire" is the most infectious of the three with its intricate musical layers, piles of exotic percusion and an infectious chorus melody. In fact, each of these songs have many layers to peer through. Each layer a journey unto itself. It's hard to listen to this disc, with its handmade earthy approach, and not be taken in. I would close with a clever statement like'"Insoma will never put you to sleep"'but that would be dumb." |
