Artist History Esoteric is a young yet promising band, rising from the stagnant town of St. George, UT. I guess you could say that Esoteric started with Scott Poole (drums) and Ryan Panella (guitar). They began writing and reciting songs in a friend's garage. Soon after they recruited Devin Rasmussen (bass), to play with them. The three of them carried on for months, and played whenever they got the chance, with low budget equipment, in a garage they didn’t even own. They didn't really play seriously, but more for the sake of "jamming." Eager to start some sort of organized band, they asked Tyler Sevy (singer/songwriter/guitar extraordinaire) to play with them. Tyler interrupted the band he was currently in, Nimbus, and continued to play with Esoteric. The band took opportunities to practice whenever they arose. Nimbus broke up shortly after the final formation of esoteric because of musical differences. This giving Esoteric strong members to become serious and to pursue their music goals. Their very first show was the "Battle of the Bands" at their high school. They won first place (by vote). This was a excellent start for the band. They won some recording time in a local studio. Then they recorded their first demo “As Confusion Lingers” in Spiral studios with production from Steve Lemon. Though a small start it was something the band needed. Shortly after this they started to rent their own storage unit to practice constantly into all hours of the night working repetitively on song after song until they were perfect. Esoteric began to play their first shows at a lot of parties, Sharks (a local pool hall), and Subzero (a local club) where they sold and distributed over 600 copies of their very first three song demo in less than nine months. With a push and encouragement from front man Chad Jensen from UNFOLD (popular punk band from St. George) Esoteric recorded their latest demo “A Day Away.” This five-song demo took three full days of grueling hours and late night recording at NOMADE recording studio in Kanab UT. Produced by Shon Foster, Esoterics new demo is the finest yet of anything they’ve ever recorded before. Shortly after the finish of their new recording and also filling their merchandise box with T-shirts and stickers, Esoteric took to the road playing in states such as Oregon/ Idaho and Northern Utah completing their first full week tour traveling over 2,800 miles. This was a true landmark for the band. Learning many things and meeting wonderful fans and people, Esoteric is getting ready for a second longer tour in summer 2003. A small tragedy hit the band when bassist Devin Rassmussen left the band due to musical differences. Devin was quickly replaced with Ryan Grosscrites, this making esoteric stronger than ever are more eager to continue on. In less than a year Esoteric finished two demos selling over 600 of the first and more onto that of the second. They completed a midwestern tour and gained respect in the community for doing so much in such little time. Their demo CD, A Day Away, is out now, as well as all brand new merchandise, they have been working hard still committing to the long pain staking practices. They continue to play shows in St. George as well as all over Utah until their next midwestern tour. Written by Scott Poole (Drummer)
