Artist description
The Ebb and Flow unites the interests of a group of ex-patriots of various kinds—Russian, Iranian,
Southern, Northern, Midwestern—within the context of a city constantly struggling to claim its own
identity. This group helps make audible the complex unde rlying sounds that churn in the uneasy
tectonic shifts below the surface of San Francisco. The influences that form the group’s sound are
not overt and easily accessible. Rather, the wide range of references are embedded in riffs and
sounds that become more and more evident upon repeated exposure to the band.
Formed in January of 2001, The Ebb and Flow brings together collaborators Sam Tsitrin (guitar),
Sara Cassetti (drums) and Roshy Kheshti (Moogs and Farfisa). Sara and Roshy are former members of
The Hairdressers, a San Francisco-based pop band who actively played in the Bay Area for over five
years. Sam is a former member of Go Van Gogh, a punk/jazz outfit with a middle-eastern flavor. This
project finds the group working towards a forward-thinking pop-jazz-prog sound.
