Artist History
The Unit 404 hails from Orangeville, Ontario – a town of 22,000 people. Drummer Evan Miller and guitarist/vocalist Adam have been playing together for over five years. Bassist Darryl Hofing joined up with the band in September of 1997.
Evan Miller learned to play drums starting out on a bunch of paint cans, cardboard boxes and doweling cut into drumsticks. This was set up by Adam and a friend in Adam’s basement – the first jam spot for the band. A major influence on drums for Evan is the drummer from Rush, Neil Peart.
Adam cut his teeth on songwriting by writing and recording full rap songs on little boom boxes with a friend at the age of 11. These rap songs would include all sorts of samples and loops all done with the simplest of equipment. A cassette deck, microphone, keyboard and a turntable would be about the limit of these elementary school recording sessions. Just before turning 16, Adam received an acoustic guitar from his parents and began writing songs almost immediately before even learning any chords or how to read music.
Darryl Hofing was originally only a lead singer in his first band with his cousins, but has had the desire to play bass for a long time. After his first band didn’t work out, he came out to jam with Evan and Adam who were looking for a bassist/vocalist and Darryl joined up with the band. At this time things were not meant to be for the trio and Darryl left the band. Fast-Forward to August 1997. Darryl had been hanging out with Evan and told him that he regretted leaving the band and wanted to join up again. On Saturday, August 30th, 1997 Darryl came out to sing with the band. A few days later he bought a bass and an amp. Darryl was let “officially” into the band again on Tuesday September 30th, 1997. Since then Darryl has taken on bass and vocal duties with Adam teaching Darryl how to play bass from square one.
The Present------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The band has already released three independent cassettes to the public. Communication Record (December 1997), Post-Rock (March 1998) and “details” (August 1998). The band is highly motivated to create and play original music that has something new to offer modern music.
The Unit 404’s latest CD no star (September 2001)features 5 tracks which are diverse in nature yet individually stand focused. Last year, the band released a full-length CD titled The Rhythm And The Blues (March 2000). The band has received airplay from major Toronto radio station, Edge 102.1 FM’s Indie Hour, along with getting the CD on some college/campus radio stations top charts in Ontario. The Unit 404 band has also contributed a song from their “details” release to the Raw Energy Record Label compilation “On The Road With A Snowboard”. The band had a song also featured on the Anti-Racist Action Compilation CD for The Kitchener-Waterloo area. The Unit 404 has also been featured/interviewed on various college radio/internet shows. Unit 404 has played shows with bands such as gob, Tricky Woo, Tristian Psionic, All Systems Go and Marilyns’ Vitamins in the past.
The Future--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Unit 404 will continue playing more and more live shows and have independently recorded (at Chemical Sound in Toronto) & released their latest CD/e.p. titled no star. The band is currently looking for national distribution to assist in placing CDs in record stores across the country. Unit 404 will be touring all around Ontario, Canada in winter 2001/2002.

Press Reviews
At the heart of every healthy relationship lies trust and honesty.
Behind every love story; dedication and perseverance.
Unit 404 have had a tumultuous and passionate love affair with music for many years. They've beaten rock n' roll. They've caressed punk. They've lovingly combed out pop's hair on the back porch, watching the sunset. They've broken up with rhythm and reconciled with the blues, all while seeing emo on the side.
Show after show, fans of music can count on Adam Kozak, Darryl Hofing and Evan Miller to bring 110% to the stage. With hearts pinned tight to sleeves and smiles stretched over faces, these seemingly average Joes blow minds for a living.
If Fugazi got into a bar fight with Weezer over the best Beatles album and it spilled over into the alley, where Superchunk was busy kicking the living snot out of The Get Up Kids, Unit 404 would be looking on, laughing.
