The Panda Squad - "Greater Than Or Equal To" cd (Aurora Seven)
Debut cd from this Boston 6-piece, and it's full of
quick and catchy little pop songs. The songs have
boy/girl vocals, and kind of Wolfie-like keyboards.
The guitars sound like they'd be good live, but
unfortunately are a bit over-produced here at times
(especially on "This Is A Mountain"). Just when
they're distorted, that is - much of the time, the
clean guitars sound quite nice. The music is great
on this cd, but the lyrics are occasionally a bit
too cute. They've got this juvenile fetish, with
songs about elementary school and kids and
four-square. And in "Not So (Elementary)", they
repeat "We played kickball all day long" for
like over a minute, which was highly annoying.
But really, the lyrics aren't that bad; I mean
it kind of makes this sound like anything on
Kindercore circa 1996-98. Musically, too - they
really sound a lot like Kincaid sometimes
(especially in the vocals). After the last track
is a hidden bonus track - are you sure this isn't
an old Kindercore cd? And okay, I know that the
title actually reads "greater than than or equal
to", but I guess algebra wasn't in their curriculum... |
