Artist History
Mildred Jones was born to musical parents in San Augustine, Texas, a small rural town near Houston. Being teachers, both parents instilled in Mildred a desire to move mountains with her voice. In school, Mildred was a vocalist, pianist, and formed several small jazz bands among her peers. She also snag in the CME Methodist Church choir and in 1949, at the age of 16, she won her school's First Year Freshmen Talent Scout Competition. From there she went on to attend Texas Southern University.
It was at Texas Southern that Mildred's career really began to blossom. Jazz was at its zenith in Houston and Miss Jones popularity soared. With her five-piece band (she was the band leader) Mildred's notoriety caught the ears of legendary B.B.King. They toured for a year in major concert halls all over the United States. During that time she met and married saxophone player, Frank Domanquex. Two children were born of that union.
After her stint with Mr. King, Mildred returned to Houston where she became the 'Toa st of The Town", singing and playing in the best hotels and clubs. In 1979, Mildred's international career began. She began with a trip to Russia, again with B.B.King. On her return to Houston, two Sara Hotel directors scouting for talent heard her sin g and promptly made her an offer to appear in Sweden. Europe was her oyster and while working as a piano bar entertainer using her rich textued voice, founf herself an international star. From the Scandinavian countries, soon she was making appearances i n countries as far away as France and the United Arab Emirates.
Mildred Jones is a professional artist whose zest for living and love for music has aided her in accomplishing the unattainable. |
