    Artist description
A fresh face on the modern rock scene, Mary's Eyes made the move from Central Virginia to Atlanta in early 2001. Inspired by bands like Led Zeppelin, U2, The Black Crowes, Train, and Collective Soul, Mary's Eyes combines outstanding lyrics with soaring melodies and grooves that stick in your head. It wasn't long until Mary's Eyes started making a splash on the local scene. In July 2001, the band won the Atlanta portion of the Hard Rock Cafe/Rolling Rock Town Fair 2.0 battle of the bands, and placed third in the nationwide internet voting. This year, Mary's Eyes will be showcasing at the Atlantis Music Conference on Saturday, August 3rd. Their new release, "Honestly," officially came out June 29th with a CD release party at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Atlanta. Mary's Eyes is Justin Land (lead vocals, guitars), Ben Snider (guitar, violin, vocals), Joe Thibodeau (drums, programming), and Matt Dashner (Tastee Bass).

Ethan's Box: Mary's Eyes by Austin Hartley If you don't realize it by now, the new music you've been missing out on isn't found on today's mainstream radio, but through man's new best friend - the internet. But with so many different bands, and so little time to browse, how does your average web-surfer come across great music to buy. Simple. Word-of-mouth. And that's why I'm here, to help you discover new, fresh, independent music. In this edition of Ethan's Box I'll be reviewing one of my new favorite bands: Mary's Eyes. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, this four-piece group has been compared to bands such as Jimmy Eat World and Train, with influences ranging from Tonic to U2. I remember seeing these guys in concert when they were first starting out, and thinking to myself how they had potential for making some pretty good music. So I picked up their first (self-titled) EP, listened to it a few times, and then moved-on to looking for more new great music. After awhile the band released their second EP entitled Wish, which not only grabbed my attention, but by several regional radio stations as well. With its catchy rock sound and well-blended melodies, Wish was showing a more produced and matured side of the band. After successfully touring the mid-west and winning the Rolling Rock Town Fair 2.0 at Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta, GA. {and taking 3rd in the National Competition}, Mary's Eyes has released their third (and may I say, their best yet) EP entitled Honestly. From the moment I listened to it I knew Honestly had the making for a great album, with the only downside being that there are only four tracks - three of which are brand new, and the fourth being a remake of Wish I Could. What makes this album stand out is not only the quality of production, but the quality of the songs. Each one differs slightly in style giving the album a nice flow to it, and any of the tracks could be released as a radio single - which is not an easy task to achieve. One thing to mention is the appeal of both the EP and the band itself. Because Mary's Eyes can deliver positive lyrics with a great live performance, they are just as entertaining to a younger crowd as they would be in a bar or coffeehouse setting. If I had my say in any kind of "Ones to Watch Out For" poll, Mary's Eyes would definitely be towards the top of my list. You can check these guys out on their website at www.maryseyes.com, where you can listen to audio samples as well as buy Honestly and the two previous EPs.
