    Artist History
Labyrinthe was formed in the Summer of 1999 by Clay Plunk (Kerr.) He'd been into "period" styled music since he was a child and wanted a group that could portray a band of gypsies, giving crowds a variety of music obtained in their many "travels." He already had a show lined up for the band as he had just started the Drachenburg Renaissance Festival scheduled to occur in October of that year in Bethpage, TN. Original members included Clay Plunk on Percussions, Michael Sullivan on rhythm guitar, Rachel Sullivan on lead vocals, Jane "Yaya" Pearl on extra percussion, winds, vocals, and Michael "Maestro" McCanless on the violin. Reischa Feuerbacher, Tina Plunk and Chris Eyster provided the visuals as the Labyrinthe dancers. After Drachenburg 1999, Labyrinthe went through a major lineup change. Michael and Rachel Sullivan were gone as well as Michael McCanless. Clay brought in new aquaintance Todd Kirby (Diablo.) to play guitar and co-write a barage of new material. After months of writing and many failed attempts at adding different instruments, Clay and Todd decided to keep it simple.... Just guitars and percussion with the occasional woodwind. To punctuate this decission, they brought in close friend Eric Link (Angelo.) to play Rhythm guitar and extra percussion as Jane pearl was soon to leave the band. Since then, Labyrinthe has drawn major crowds at other Drachenburg Festivals, not to mention the Tennessee, Michigan and Gulf Coast Renaissance Festivals. As well, they have played coffee-houses, benefits, Clubs like Planet Hollywood and literally, they have played on the streets of their hometown, Nashville. The band began recording their first self produced CD in December of 2000. In May of 2001, they grew impatient and released an EP entitled "The Opening." They did this to give people a taste of what the full CD would contain. "The Opening" sold well and generated much anticipation over the full CD which was released in October of 2001 under the name "Soulstice." They have since released a second EP entitled "Tales from beyond the North Wind." It showcases six more songs from the full CD. Recently, Labyrinthe was selected for the Hot Artist Spotlight at MP3.com where they held #1 on such Genre charts as Spanish, Indian, Medieval and Arabic. Also, because of the band's theatrical element, Middle Tennessee State University used their music and dance choreography for its May 2002 production of Tales of Arabian Nights. Faces have changed in the line-up. From fill in performers such as Percussion master Kevin Hartnell, Bellydancing wonder "Laylia" and the alluring "Sphinx" to new members "Amara", (Dance.) Roxana "Amina" Imam, (Winds / Percussion.) Raja (Dance.) and Tom Billings. (Percussion.). Labyrinthe, as a band is constantly writing new material. As a group, they continue, as always, to be well recieved.
