Artist History
Starting as a three-piece in the summer of 1997, it was Michael Tyson on guitar and vocals, Michael Gallagher on drums, and Greg Schneider on bass. All three had been in the same band only a few months prior and were eager to create new music. In less than a year they had recorded enough material to make a full length, but only one song ever made it to an album; a compilation with other local acts. They continued to write new material and play local venues, and in early 1999 they independently recorded and released the e.p., 'We Can Make It'. Songs off the album immediately received airplay on specialty programs of two local radio stations, WQXA and WJTL, and soon, radio stations throughout the northeast followed suit. Later that year, they added the help of Travis Harris on guitar. His addition seemed to further the drive and focus of the band and it was at this time they began to play shows more regularly.
Playing a variety of venues, ranging anywhere from fire halls to coffeehouses to clubs; they soon found themselves playing in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland just as much as they did in their own local scene. Along the way, they had the opportunity to open for such national acts as Pedro The Lion and The Juliana Theory as well as many other regional acts. What seemed to be the biggest break so far came knocking on the door in mid-2000. Through connections with the Orchard (Kavanah Star's distributor) and MTV, a contract was negotiated to use the song 'Tired And Stable' off the 'We Can Make It' e.p. for the popular show, Daria. At this point, the band had already been recording new material and two of the songs found their way onto separate compilations. The first song, 'A Glimpse Of Things To Come' was released in early 2001 on a soundtrack for the independent film 'The Screen' and the other song, 'My Own Heart', would later be released on a compilation to benefit a local charity.
Although things seemed to be looking up, Greg Schneider decided it was time for him to leave in March 2001; and the band found itself looking for a new bassist. Michael Gallagher offered his services, but naturally this left another hole to be filled. The band asked Dan Tyson, Michael Tyson's brother, to fill the empty drum slot. What seemed to be the biggest challenge for the band in it’s almost 5 year existence turned out to be the critical element that would enable them to create the sound they had been looking for all along. During the fall of 2001 they headed back into the studio to record the new material. Currently, they are shopping a three-song demo to record labels as well as introducing new music to fans and newcomers.
